So I'm sorry for being kinda iffy on replying with this, but the last few days have been pretty hectic what with getting laid off and having to try and get a bus pass from Unemployment. (Spoiler alert: it didn't work. Guess I'm too much of a functioning human being to get help.)
But you guys aren't reading this to listen to me bitch about my personal woes. You want to hear about a power struggle between galaxies, between the old ways and the new, in a universe where there are no "good guys" and even the best of paths still comes with a terrible blood-soaked price tag. The science fiction war crimes probably don't hurt either, lol.
So let's get back to it!
The Kel'Shir drones find the space where the Maw should've been, and keep going into empty space. As they scan the perfectly normal area and prepare to send the information back, the last transmission is of a vast trident-shaped warship as it fires on the drones...
Meanwhile, over Taros, a man sits high on a throne that seems to be made of shifting and flowing light as he polishes a broadsword lying across his lap. He has several cuts and bruises, but ignores them as he gives the sword a few last strokes with the cloth and then holds it up, musing to himself. "Gorgeous really. Still need to see about a better name than 'Sword of Ecke'. Ridiculous, really."
Deep in the shadows, there's a soft groan of wood and metal as the main doors slowly creak open, and the Imperial emissary to the Dawn enters the throne room. When the man on the throne gives her a questioning look, she just shakes her head gently, and he nods, then taps something on the arm of the throne. "Admiral Marai, prepare the fleet, I've just-"
He cuts himself off, listening to something only he can hear. "Truly? One would think the Federation had learned its lesson already. Did any of the transmissions make it past the block?"
A slight pause. "I expect we'll have to deal with that soon enough, but for now, finish gathering our lost brothers and sisters and return to the rally point. We must act swiftly or lose the initiative."
To be continued...
