You know, you see all these huge, powerful ships on the forum, but they don't look realistic. Most of em are a giant square or a wall of weaponry. This is my current design of a ship that can wipe out all the in-game ships, while still looking like it could exist (and go to warp speed) IRL

Feedback would be appreciated, as well as other realistic, functional ships.

The limited ship parts and the way that weapons have to be in front hurts creativity in this game especially for larger ships. I like to make small ships that look great and are still ok.
How much is this ship?

Jakeblake
A little over 1.6 mill.
And it's made to broadside, like you know, every actual ship in existence.

Better looking 1.6 mil ship than I could make lol
I'll have to try making broadside ships. I've make forts that work on 4 fronts but never a ship on 2 fronts

    Aurellia What mods?

Abh mod with a huge ships modification for the designer.

      Small Things

All of my ships will utilise these, when I get around to posting my factions.

We do not have ships of this technology level in real life. Physically speaking I do not think all vessels need to look like a rocket.

my first shot at a larger ship

I mean using real-world aerodynamics and stuff. Ships IRL (both sea and space) are made to minimize resistance in water/atmosphere. Many of the "op" ships the community has made are essentially walls, which isn't realistic.

I don't actually like building ridiculously massive ships.
This is my fav design (albeit tiny, it's very effective)

I guess my ship collection kind of fits on the "realistic side" of things.
You guys can take it though. Here's my lower end Medium Cruiser, the Moon-class (released on Bundle 3 IIRC)

Yeah I prefer smaller ships because theyre more fun to play with and you can specialize them instead of huge ships that have everything that are OP and boring to play

Can someone please write some links for me I cant find any mods

AlfaTitan Look in the mod section in the forums in the menu on the left

Thank you for telling me this even though shortly after I posted that I found that out shortly after

There's nothing impossible about a ship that looks like a giant wall or box; obviously there are no aerodynamic concerns, and whatever structural problems arise can be compensated for by the right supports. IRL there will be other considerations (particularly armor) that will determine the shape of space warships. For a good treatment of that, you can play Children of a Dead Earth, or just read that game's dev's explanation here:
                    https://childrenofadeadearth.wordpress.com/2016/04/12/why-does-it-look-like-that-part-2/

Long story short, the way of the future is cylinders and cones, more like this (from Children of a Dead Earth):

But you may have noticed that Cosmoteer is not a realistic sort of game, so the spacecraft in it will never really look like any sort of actual ones; making something vaguely sleek or battleship-shaped is only pretending.

That having been said, I can totally get on board with making things that are sleek and/or vaguely battleship-shaped, because they're cooler!

DecidedlyNinja Yeah Cause anyone can make a block ship but it takes time and effort to make a good looking ship that also functions well

The Galileo Mk.29. Mk.30 has a slightly changed engine setup and better ammunition protection. Large Cannons, and Ion Beams are conveyor fed with 3 layers of armor behind them, before the magazine. This is my first ever line of ships, started the game 4 days ago. After seeing other designs, I was going for a more frontal focused design, rather than the usual elongated broadsiding design. This version is barely capable of dealing with vanguards. Will post later iterations.
