I'm sure in-combat repairs have been suggested in many forms before, but I'm not certain whether they've been suggested like this.
I'd like to have a 'damage control' station, a 1x2 room where crew can pick up repair kits (toolboxes? welding torch and helmet?) to repair damaged parts at a slow to moderate rate. Much like a fire extinguisher, the crewman would have to be in the room they are repairing. Naturally the repairs would be limited only to rooms that crew have access to, so no repairing of external armor. Crew also can't repair fully destroyed parts.
I think this way of repairing parts is a fitting way of implementing in-combat repairs in Cosmoteer, since crew are required for it, necessitating good crew flow, just like any other part. It would also add depth to ship defense, where currently we only have shields and armor. (And PD of course, but that's specialized.)
In the future, when resources are added, repairing would consume them.
