The R-UPA ships charge ahead again, their weapons restocked. This time, they barraged the Mak with the Thermal-Clusters first, then treated them to a hail of energy weapons. They were more careful this time, only losing two light gunships and 15 light fighters to the Mak.

Note to self, don't set time limit next time.
The Mak appear to be learning, every successful attack slowly losing out on the number of Drones killed as the Mak begin evading with speed and agility that no organic-carrying vessel could hope to match. The RH ships in system being slowly decimated as the Mak unrelentingly assault them.
Tsunamis of drones form and crash down on the Solar Orb, the sheer volume of attackers mitigating any form of effective tactic. The formation shatters into it's component ships, the three battleships appear to disintegrate as tens of thousands of drones are newly fabricated.
The energy weapon fires, the Mak caught in it's path are obliterated. Unfortunately this has given them information and they begin to swarm all of the ships capable of fielding a weapon like it.
A massive golden lance spews forth from a group of RH-9s as their Navigators force as much Psionic energy as possible through the Psi-War Amps onboard the ships. The lance completely fails to affect the Mak as they continue to accelerate towards the RH-9s, shortly erasing the ships in a flurry of lights.

yobeefjerky in the maks attack ive lost 7 more battle ships for a total loss of 9 and everything else other than the ragnarock is destroyed

my allys im going to use the self destruct on the ragnarock get at least 40 km away before the explosion happens i dont have much time so move!

(the ragnarocks explosion is overclocking the reactors until they explode and flagships in the soccaz carry 1.5 times as many reactors as they need and the ragnarock is a dreadnought its going to incinerate almost anything it hits and on top of that the ragnarock is detonating its FTL drives to make an even larger blast)
(reason for the ragnarock not being completely destroyed is that it has 50 percent more armor than the heavy battleships)

The R-UPA ships are momentarily surprised by the sudden mak attack and lose:

They stop firing... for a split second. A whirring sound fills the air and suddenly tractor beams are all over the place. Unlike most other tractor beams, the R-UPA tractor beams are designed to use plasma rays, which means that they are extremely hot and are also highly effective at restricting movement.

They aim the tractor beams at large groups of Mak drones, holding them in place and firing at them until they become little more than space dust. The R-UPA ships bunch up in a 'grape formation', where the central ones can use their tractor beams and the outer ones can use their weapons. It seems to be effective for the meantime...

The Voidborn vessels continue attempting to retreat, still continuously filling the area around them with massed thermal fire, the PD spraying now an even greater wall of shots.Taking out most Make who enter it before they get into range, but not all quickly enough to be completely safe...
By now the Voidborn have managed to avoid any losses due to their protective almost solid shell of fire, but most ships have suffered major or minor damage
"Admiral, ships are reporting heat capacitors starting to build up."

The only upside to the heat buildup is it meaning the external radiators are very hot, so much so that the fleet is emitting a heat bubble around them

Effervescent-Blade continues calculating furiously as contingent after contingent of the Anti-Mak task force either fell or withdrew. The choice was really difficult, but Effervescent-Blade ran the chances...
...What even are the chances going to suggest? Retreat is better, and let them grow to larger numbers than previously encountered? Despite everything and anything you throw at them, you will not be able to overcome such a swarm? Forget the chances, the Collective have invested way too much into this galaxy to lose it now. Not only would they go back to square one, but they will lose every memory-cache and simulated asset native to this galaxy, reducing their numbers drastically.

...No matter what, defeat is not an option. Effervescent-Blade ordered his droneships and subcores to form an elipsoid defensive formation around the Command-Class subcore, from which he broadcasts a rallying transmission.

"ATTENTION ALL FORCES. WE CANNOT ALLOW THE MAK TO MULTIPLY IN EASE - FROM THE MEMORIES OF THE FLERYG HEGEMONY THAT ONCE WAS, WE SAW THAT LEAVING THE MAK BE IN THEIR UNIVERSE WAS THE EXACT HUBRIS THAT CAUSED THE FALL OF THE ORIGIN POWERS. THE COLLECTIVE INTENDS TO PICK UP ON THEIR HISTORY AND LEARN FROM THEIR MISTAKES, SO I REPEAT: WE CANNOT ALLOW THE MAK TO MULTIPLY IN EASE, OR THEY WILL HAVE INSURMOUNTABLE ODDS AGAINST US ONCE THEY COME FOR OUR FACTIONS. FOCUS RIFTS TO THOSE DIMENSIONS AROUND MY FORMATION, AND ONCE ENOUGH MAK HAVE FALLEN THROUGH THE PORTALS... DESTROY THOSE DIMENSIONS COMPLETELY. ERASE THEM, OBLITERATE THEM, DELETE - HOWEVER YOU DO IT, MAKE SURE THEY ARE COMPLETELY DESTROYED."

"HEGEMONY, THIS SWARM OF MAK HAS COMPLETELY ADAPTED TO YOUR SHIPS AND THEY ARE THEREFORE USELESS. By this time, the still-numerous Mak swarms begin to close in on Effervescent-Blade's Droneships. The Droneships begin opening fire, about as literally as when Salamander-Null's ships open fire, but these ships have been retrofitted with longer-range thermal weaponry. Incendiary missiles line Frigate droneships and the Light Cruisers have their Antimatter Lances superheated with Fusion technology, making them quite unstable and unwieldy in exchange for thermal damage and overall destructive power... a fair tradeoff considering how numerous the Mak are.

"It won't be long until the Mak adapt to our weapons... we plan to use their adapted evasion against them. Our fire patterns will have funnel-like holes in them. this is intended. WHEN I GIVE THE WORD, OMEGA'S RIFTS WILL BE PLACED INSIDE THOSE FUNNELS, BETWEEN MY FLEET AND THE MAK SWARMS. VOIDBORN VESSELS - USE THE BEACON NETWORK TO CALL REINFORCEMENTS FROM YOUR HIGH COMMAND, MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE RETROFITTED THERMAL WEAPONS YOU HAVE NOW. (Hegemony was last targeted, and as a result was outnumbered by an absurd level. Remember that the Origin Galaxy was around a million Ly in diameter and the Mak was allowed to grow for almost a year before meeting the superpowers.)

The Ragnarock erupts into a blinding light, eviscerating every Mak drone within a 3 Kilometer radius and turning drones within a 4km radius into glowing masses of material.
The lost UEE ships are quickly converted, thousands of new drones added to the ever-expanding Collective. The Plasma tractor beams are quickly analyzed by the hivemind and a weakness located, the drones begin modulating their shields to deflect the beams. The Voidborn fleet being assaulted endlessly by Mak drones who don't seem to adapt well to the thermal PD.
The RH ships seem to fall back as they lose the majority of their fleet, a mere fraction of the original fleet remains as it is shortly wiped out by the Mak.

yobeefjerky Retreat seems like the better option at this point. The battle is pretty much already lost anyway. Why not fall back and save what ship remain?

I even had a word processing document up to try and save progress, but then my computer crashed and it got corrupted. I shall attempt #5, but if this keeps up, I don't think the DC will be fighting in this chapter anymore.))

The R-UPA ships have one last final trick up their sleeves. Every ship turns its weapons off. They all spread out. Their shields remain strong, yet they are weakening. They wait until a majority of the mak drones are surrounding them, then the fleet commander says,

"Not all battles can be won. This is one that requires the ultimate sacrafice."

The ships all suddenly deactivate their shields. All power goes to the warp drives. Just as the Mak drones begin tearing the ships apart, they warp. The warp jump pulls massive amounts of Mak drones, counting millions, into a whirlpool of the wormhole. The Mak drones, unprepared, suffer great damages. Several of the R-UPA ships explode, taking more drones out.

The warp disengages right in the centre of a massive black hole, in another galaxy, far away from the battle...

The Voidborn fleet scatter their formation directly toward the oncoming Mak swarm with their command ship leading. They begin to overheat and shut down, leaving them vulnerable and hence attacking large numbers of Mal to swarm them - before the ships simultaneously overcharge-detonate their reactors, FTL drives, and thermal energy capacitors in a show of blinding light; destroying all Mak unfortunate enough to be in the substantial blast radius.
Voidborn Fleet Destroyed.

However, it appears their sacrifice simply bought time for reinforcements to arrive unimpeded, some 5 fleet groups split in two divisions. 22,500 light ships array themselves in front with a similar tactic to those before - but the retrofit of these was less rushed allowing them to output even greater volumes of fire. At the rear sit 155 capital ships which appear to have had all of their weapons removed and replaced with point defense, the one exception their blackhole cannon anti-capital batteries, though modified

(And before anyone complains I think the strategy of sending more ships is pretty sound considering the Voidborn know what uncontained Mak can do)
