That's a commonly used tactic of armor to defend after the shield gets taken down.
If you really want to get that title you really need to spread out the reactors that are clustered at the bottom. Place one if them at each shield far away from power.
If you have too much unused reactors after that, which you probably have, you can remove the useless ones.
By following this your ship will become less explody and the shields will remain on for a longer time.
