Here's the only relevant part of my game's error log. It seems that some kind of problem in the official game is also flowing into the way your mod operates, and likewise affecting it. I hope that this info helps you:

You actually made it worse.

If you want a strong shield you need to put the AmmoDrainPerHit to be lower.

the vanilla version is 0.5 and it means it will drain 0.5 ammo for each point of damage received.

For example a 0.25 AmmoDrainPerHit means it will drain only 0.25 ammo for point of damage.

two years.

Sorry I just forgot I had this game and made this mod, started to replay and realized my old ships were not loading, checked the error log and saw my mod was missing, did a quick google search and landed on my own mod page, realized my own stupidity and updated as quickly as i can, sorry again. I guess life just creeps up on you before you realize how long a time has passed.
