Society and Culture

The Slavonic Union is, in general, communist state, while is being ruled by the anonymous Supreme Leader. The elected Labor and Defence Council follows his instructions while helping him to make right decisions.
All people of the Union are equal, unless they are criminals who are always suppressed in civil rights. Every civilian has a number of rights:
1. The right to labor (including the right to choose kind of labor and place to work, as well as change it freely)
2. The right to basic needs fulfillment (i. e. every civilian have a house or at least an apartment, effective daily diet, some clothes, may get education or have medical examination anytime for free)
3. The right to extended needs request (i. e. every civilian may write a request, which allows him to stand in line to get, for example, a space shuttle or a new housekeeping robot)
4. The right to property (a thing that civilian uses for certain time becomes his property, but it may be removed from him, for example, as a penalty; besides, the right to property does not apply to businesses, buildings and other public property)
5. The right to free will (unless this leads to a crime)
Crimes are, as a first approximation, divided into three categories. First category crimes (such as improper parking, absence from work, alcoholism, inappropriate behavior and so on) lead to various one-time penalties, from verbal reprimand to diet cut, but never result any constant right suppression. Second category crimes (for example, theft, beating, damage to property - especially public) entails a loss of rights. Third category crimes (murder, rape, corruption, uprising) are the basis for a death sentence. Recidivists get heavier punishments and may also be punished as for the next category crimes.

The Union's culture develops the early-communist ideal of the "new soviet man". The society promotes the cult of unity and universal equality, and labor is considered the main value, so those who work hard for the Space Motherland become national heroes. Sports are considered the best leisure activities, while art in general is perceived as a call to action. The society basically does not interfere in the relationship between a man and a woman, but children are considered national treasure, and therefore they are actively involved in public training since early childhood. Party membership is perceived as a sign of high social activity and is extremely welcome in any sphere of labor. The cult of the personality of the Supreme Leader as "the first amongst the equals" reigns in society, and every citizen dreams of being like him since childhood.

Territory and Economics

The Slavonic Union is divided by two parts: the Seven Stars Region and the Periphery.
Seven Stars are seven systems, that the Union colonized first: Lena-Zarya binary system (habitable worlds Aelita and Tayga), Slava (Ural), Pobeda (Volga), Svoboda (Amur), Maya (Step' and Avrora), Pravda (Raduga), Nadezhda (Altay).
Periphery includes 11 systems with habitable worlds and 23 - with only space stations.

The Union is a technocratic civilization, so it needs a plenty of resources. There are a number of large zero-gravitation mining facilities, mostly in Seven Stars Region, but the vast majority of minerals are mined in the Periphery. Modular cargo ships are widely used to transport raw materials from mining stations to industrial worlds, such as Ural and Tayga. Agricultural worlds, for example, Volga, Step' and Raduga, provide more than 100 billion people of the Union with all necessary food and medicines.

Military Force

The Slavonic Union has powerful Red Starfleet, aimed to protect the Union's worlds from any invasion. Its ships are armed with kinetic and missile weapons, placed in a so called "swan" formation: ship has long, narrow bow and two wings on the stern. Wings carry most of the ship's weapons, while well-protected bow is supposed to tank enemy fire. A number of zero-gravitation shipyards are continuously producing ships of the main classes.

Warships

Buran
fighter

Light, fast and very maneurable, Buran fughters are the most recent ships in the Red Starfleet. They are wielding a light cannon, which is able to deal significant damage to enemy fighters from the greater distance, and two PDs to grant reliable missile protection for larger ships.

Zenith
bomber

Zenith bombers trade defence and agility for the great firepower. Armed with missile launcher, they can strike large enemy ships from the safe distance while having enough speed to flee from the close combat.

Groza
corvette

Agile and well-rounded support ships, Groza corvettes are backbone of smaller ships party. They are carrying one heavy and two light cannons, so they are useful against enemy fighter or bomber squads as well as to counter enemy support ships from distance. Two PDs granting them significant missile protection, while sensor array and great speed makes them effective sentinels.

Mir
frigate

The lightest Red Starfleet ships with shields, Mir frigates rely on defence more then on offence. Their armament consists of the heavy cannon, two missile launchers and two PDs, which making them a good counter to enemy escort ships, while their heavy payload allows to use them in numbers to overwhelm enemy capital ships with strikes from many directions.

Zarya
destroyer

The main escort ship class of the Red Starfleet, Zarya destroyers are supposed for use in numbers, while they are universal enough to lead light strike group. They carry 4 missile launchers, one light and two heavy cannons. Their shields are focused to the bow direction, while 8 PDs have a 360 degree coverage.

Kirov
strike cruiser

Kirov strike cruisers are the most famous ships of the Red Starfleet, taking part in almost every combat. Armed with a massive railgun, 6 missile launchers, 4 light and 4 heavy cannons, they are pretty useful versus every potential enemy ship class. They have no internal armor, but strong front and side shields, 12 PDs and decent agility makes it unnecessary.

Sevastopol
battleship

Sevastopol battleships are the largest Red Starfleet capital ships. Armed with four powerful railguns as a main caliber, they also carry 6 missile launchers, 8 heavy and 2 light cannons. This handful of weapons makes them strong counter for enemy capital ships, while the most crucial parts are protected with shields, internal armor and 14 PDs.

Lenin
dreadnought

Pride of the Red Starfleet, Lenin dreadnought is a visible symbol of power and glory. Its main caliber - five railguns - are able to deal crippling blow to enemy ship, shut down its shields, tear its armor and blow up its reactors, while 24 heavy cannons and 8 missile launchers overwhelm enemy defences and turn every not-armored part of the enemy ship to the ash and dust. 360 degree protection is based on 20 PDs and a handful of shields, while inner parts are protected with internal armor.

Gagarin
carrier

While tough enough to protect themselves, Gagarin carriers are supposed to be support ships for heavy strike groups of the Red Starfleet. They are armed with 8 missile launchers, 6 light and 4 heavy cannons, but their main weapons are their strike crafts. Every Gagarin carrier conveys 6 Strizh fighters and 4 Voron bombers in four heavy-armored hangar bays. By the way, the mothership itself is protected by plenty of shields, 16 PDs and internal armor.

Strizh
board fighter

Lightest Red Starfleet spaceships, Strizh fighters have no FTL drives, so they can only be transported by Gagarin carriers. They have light cannon and two PDs, which makes them useful against enemy light ships.

Voron
board bomber

Voron bombers are armed with missile launcher, so that they can strike larger ships from distance. Alongside with Strizh fighters, they are supposed to use only as strike crafts of Gagarin carriers, and are unable to travel on their own.

Tuman
scout

Military ship with no weapons, Tuman is a weapon itself. Its powerful radar systems not only can spot enemy from a large distance, but also supress its scaners using semi-secret technology, making allied fleet potentially invisible.

Civilian ships

Chayka
space shuttle

Light shuttle for internal flights. It is built not only for personal needs, but for tourism and rescue services too. Every civilian have a dream to get this ship.

Udarnik
mining ship

These light and cheap mining ships are used to extract minerals from small asteroids, where mining base cannot be operated. Their mining laser may also be used as a weapon.

Soyuz
research ship

Utilized primarily for system surveillance and deep space observations, this science vessel has everything that real scientist needs: high quality laboratories, great precision instruments and hands-free meal reminder.

Vostok
space liner

Fast and comfortable, this ship grants 120 passengers great ability to travel to the nearby system faster than light. The only drawback of these liners is that they are always too few.

Sputnik
construction ship

The primarily use of this drone-carrying ship is to build astroengineering constructions anywhere they are needed: from deep space to planetary low orbit.

Pobeda
landing ship

This vessel not only can transport troops to make planetfall on hostile world, but also provides them with ammo, missiles and plasma rounds, heals the wounded and serves as a well-protected mobile HQ.

Salut
colonization ship

When there are too many people in the world, it's high time to build a colony vessel. Carrying 320 thousand colonists in cryogenic sleep, this ship also takes on board everything that colony will be needed for at least a year after landing.

Druzhba
cargo ship

Modular design and high durability makes this ship matchless in space delivery and interstellar trade. But beware: lost in its depths, crew members may wander for months, so take some food and water with you when going to have an evening walk!

History

1981, 11 August. During his common researches, Soviet physicist Prof. Nikanorov discovered the gravimagnetic resonance phenomenon. Very soon he found out that it can be used to accelerate physical agents to the light speed.

1982. The experimental setup was completed, and a number of experiments finally proved Prof. Nikanorov to be right.

1984. The NIIFOS - Research Institute of Physics of Near-Light Motion - was founded, with Prof. Nikanorov as its Headmaster.

1985. Soviet government commissioned the NIIFOS to develop a spaceship for colonization purposes under the codename "Metel" ("blizzard").

1988. 292-ton automatic spaceship "Zarya Kommunizma" ("dawn of the communism") was ready, and 150 thousand brave Soviet colonists boarded it and were immersed in cryogenic sleep.

1988, 28 September. During common gravimagnetic engines test "Zarya Kommunizma" started to accelerate unexpectedly, and quickly reached the light speed, after which the connection with it was lost.

1989. NIIFOS was dissolved, Prof. Nikanorov was arrested and, after a short investigation, he was sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out immediately. All information about the Metel project was classified as top secret.

1988 - 2093. "Zarya Kommunizma" had been travelling through the Galaxy on the light speed without course and destination.

2093, 7 January. As a result of an unlikely coincidence, "Zarya Kommunizma" went into a circular orbit in the unknown system, and for that reason ship's computer decided to start braking and awakening of crew members.

2093, February - May. By regular observations and accurate measurements the crew was ascertained, that the system consists of 7 rocky planets, 3 gas giants and 2 asteroid belts, orbiting binary star. The main, huge and shiny blue star Lena had been named after great Communist leader Lenin, while accompanying red dwarf Zarya - after the spaceship. Moreover, fourth and fifth planets had been proved to have signs of life on their surface.

2093, 1 October. Guided by captain Yegorov, "Zarya Kommunizma" landed successfully on the fifth planet Tayga, which was found to be very Earth-like, although a little colder and covered mostly with coniferous forests, swamps and tundra. Colonists founded a small settlement around the ship. They named it Krasnyy Novgorod.

2094 - 2137. Colonists have been spreading across the planet, founding new cities, cultivating fields and mining minerals. They even have launched a number of satellites. Science and technology have been developing fast. Population reaches 100 millions. Ruled by General Secretary Yegorov and the Interspace Communist Party (ICP), colonists call themselves Taygan Soviet Socialistic Republic.

2137, 16 May. TSSR launches colonization ships, heading to the fourth planet Aelita, which was found to be covered mostly by freshwater ocean, with a plenty of islands and archipelagos. The planet is not rich in minerals so the colony is completely dependent on external supplies.

2138. An asteroid detected travelling straight course to the planet Tayga. Having no nuclear weapon, this planet is defenceless.

2138, 29 August. Asteroid crashes on Tayga, causing earthquakes, eruptions and crust fractures. Millions of people die or disappear. Clouds of volcanic ash cover the sky, leading to agricultural failure and starvation. General Secretary Yegorov himself perishes when trying to evacuate Krasnyy Novgorod from the lava flows. TSSR is down.

2138 - 2140. Aelita colony strives to survive without mineral supplies. There is no information about Tayga, it is not even known whether there are any survivors.

2140, 17 December. An anonymous group of security officers and party functionaries takes lead on Aelitan capital, Sevastopol, dispersing the government and imposing martial law. They call themselves the Supreme Council. Their goal is to save mankind at least in this distant system. First of all, they launch so-called Survival Protocol.

Survival protocol

1. The colony in its current state is not viable and doomed to extinction.
   1.1. The only reason for it is extreme minerals shortage.
   1.2. There is no reason why we should expect to find their source on this planet.
2. A planet capable of supplying us with an unlimited amount of resources has undergone a cataclysm that destroyed its infrastructure and at least 80% of the population.
   2.1. There is no reason why we should expect it to restore by its own.
3. The only way to survive is to restore this planet.
4. All necessary resources should be invested in the construction of reusable spacecraft.
5. Agriculture and food industry must at all costs reach the pace of overproduction.
   5.1. All surplus food must be removed from the colony in exchange for minerals.
6. The main purpose of this protocol is the complete restoration of both planets through the separation of obligations for the resources supply.
7. Failure to complify this protocol for any reason is equivalent to the extinction of humanity in this system.

2141 (1 ASC). In the Supreme Council newsletters this year is named the first year of a new era of humanity. All colony work like one organism, overproducing food and building cargo ships from scratch. Since this year, all dates are counted from it and are marked with ASC (After Supreme Council), while older dates are marked with BSC (Before Supreme Council).

3 ASC. First five year plan is completed ahead of time. First space convoy carrying 80,000 tons of food, medicines, clothes and other necessities reaches Tayga. It becomes clear that around 10 millions are still alive.

7 ASC. Second five year plan is completed ahead of time too. Taygan people work hard to mine all necessary resources, while Aelitan men supply them with food and medicines. While normal life restores on both planets, contradictions between the Supreme Council members are getting stronger. There is a crisis in the government.

12 ASC. Third five year plan is completed in time. At this moment government crisis culminates.

13 ASC, 3 October. One of Supreme Council members proceeds with a coup, sending secret orders to his Security Service supporters. Most of the government members arrested, as he takes all the power in his hands as the anonymous Supreme Leader.

14 ASC - 147 ASC. Leaded by the Labor and Defence Council with the Supreme Leader as its chief, the successors of Aelitan and Taygan people build their new society. Officially its name is Slavonic Union, but they often call it Space Motherland. With the capital in Sevastopol, Aelita, the Union expands its borders within the home system. Asteroid belts are used as unlimited source of minerals, while industrial and agricultural colonies supply people of the Union with utopical amount of goods.

147 ASC. First interstellar colonization ship travels into nearby system Slava, claiming it for the Union.

203 ASC. 6 systems around Lena are colonized at that moment. Together they are often called the Seven Stars.

204 ASC - modern times. A plenty of worlds colonized around the Seven Stars Region. Now the Union scans the space, searching for the alien life.

Space rips and folds as an unidentified flying object (UFO) appears in a system inhabited by the Union. It appears to be artificial in nature as it closes the rift that it created, whilst moving around for a while.

RedAndCosmoteer Radio communications between the Red Starfleet objects in the system intensifies.

Tuman class scout scans the space with it high-powered locators , trying to catch any unidentified signals.

INPrint As you get closer, you start to identify the artificial object. Suddenly, you get pinged by active radar, which means you must have been detected.

The object appears to be 91 meters long, and 61 meters wide. And it has started moving towards you, three AU away.

In advance, a small fighter squadron is sent to intercept the Surveillance group.

Tuman class scout sets its radars into suppression mode. It's believed to hide the nearest ships from radar surveillance.

Gladiaxa (There are two inhabitable planets in this system, while a number of uninhabitable has mining bases and scientific outposts on their surface. Which one are you going to land? Moreover, to prevent the mishaps, I haven't done any ground forces yet, so the planetfall might be a little boring.)
