Having played quite a lot Arena games by now the overall feeling of almost everyone was: "go back to elimination".
This has reasons but does NOT mean that Areana is all bad.
Pro Arena:
(Re)Spawning Ships! 😃
This makes the game much more tactical because calling in new ships while a realtime game is happening makes the game much less rockpaperscissors-speculation.
You can choose the vessel that fits for the situation (and counter that nasty spammy ship 😛 ).
Con Arena:
The seemingly arbitrary point system. 🙁
1, Collection goal points sometimes happens very fast sometimes is rather tedious but even worse almost every time ends this mode apruptly and unexpected - many times in the middle of a good game/fight.
"What? we had a good tactical endgame and - game over - uargh ..."
2, When you manually respawn you pay points & your old vessels get dectivated which makes that option totally unattracitve - mostly leading to 3, the player who wins the first encounter most of the time wins the whole game.
Revamp-Proposal-Idea-Suggestion-Solution:
Keep the Respawning / Drop the points system! (yes completely) / Introduce timebased WAVES
The idea would be that you no longer win the game by reaching a certain score and apruptly disrupt an probably epic "GG". But win the game by elimination.
The Respawning happens in waves (stages, rounds ...) which are time based!
Example:
- You set up the game beeing three waves of x minutes.
- after a wave ends you can spawn (bring in) new ships.
- you do NOT have to bring them in right away (maybe a icon could indicate that calling in new fleet reinforcements is possible).
- If a player has no more active ships (ie: control rooms) this side/player can spawn early. (to keep the game going OBV)
- This would open a completely new tactic: "Not destroying the opponent quickly by hitting the control room early but disabling ships part by part.
- the remaining active vessels do not get deactivated after the new ones spawn but stay in game normally.
- so that wrecked ships can still help, block or even be rescued!
- leads to fleet paly more often!
Really think this would keep the more tactical approach of Arena (counter the counter the counter game 😉 ). And stop games getting cut off apru ...
It would also stress players to get into the game quickly because you want to do damage before the nex wave of ships is arriving. No artificial penalty for not respawning quickly would be neccessary because you want to respawn as quick as possible to support your fleet! - or what is left of it!
