FAQ

  • What is the Cosmoteer PvP tournament?
The Cosmoteer PvP tournament is (as the name suggests) a multiplayer pvp tournament for the Cosmoteer community. The tournament is completely multiplayer, which means that instead of using AI to control ships - you will have to build and pilot the ship yourself.

  • Can anyone join?
You must have a discord account to join the tournament. You can create a free account here

  • What happens to the champion role?
Still working on that, just be assured that you will receive the role for at least 2 weeks upon victory

  • Will this tournament have a game reward?
Games will be given away until I either run out or become stingy

IVIemories Suggestion: maybe change victory condition to 100% destruction? That way it's very clear that you lose when you're out of control rooms. With 90% destruction and $2mil credits, players could lose even with a fully functional $199k fighter (possibly in a great clinging position).

Dalas120 My counter argument is that with 100% destruction we could get close matches where the two players control floating wrecks that can barely damage each other - not exactly exciting gameplay.

I would prefer a victory condition based on control rooms, weapons and thrusters rather than destruction. E.g. in tournaments like Robot Wars, you are counted out when you are immobilized and not in a brawl. Example: You destroyed all control rooms or thrusters on all ships of a player, pull out of weapons range (like in Bounty Hunter where you need to be 5 seconds out of a skirmish to repeair) and a clock starts counting the enemy out (just because it eases the defeated player into the fact; instant death feels bad).

mleise in tournaments like Robot Wars, you are counted out when you are immobilized and not in a brawl.

This is a good thing, RoD effectively does this, but it might be slower than players and viewers would like. If you blow up enough of their thrusters, you can go to the center and wait while RoD takes them out or they forfeit. Destroying 100% of thrusters is not required for RoD victory, so making a case for a ship having "disabled" status under some condition (maybe if it's not capable of moving faster than the ring shrinks?) might help.

                but that never happened before...

Bevan of course not, because I have never set it to 100% destruction before.

IVIemories no, I meant that the point where 2 ships are literally just as weak as each other is kinda impossible unless it's the same ships

IVIemories Personally, I think I would enjoy watching 2 crippled ships fighting to push the other outside the ring, and I've had some fun FFA matches where that's happened. That might just be me though, not sure what most people like

The shrinking ring fixes any problem that 90% destruction might solve. A sneaky thing about 90% destruction is that if you field a swarm of 10 ships, you can have a 100% functional ship remaining and still lose. This can be used to discourage swarms if somebody thinks they're a problem.
