I was thinking about ramming, and how ships would be damaged by ramming once it’s implemented. I’ve thought of these two ways a ship would be damaged when it’s rammed:
Pressure Damage: Pressure damage occurs to parts directly in contact with another vessel. Should the other vessel be traveling faster than the saftey speed, the part will take damage upon collision, which scales up with the speed of the collision.
Shock Damage: Shock damage would be a little more interesting, and help with the dramatic feel of the ram. Shock damage occurs in a line along the velocity vector from the collision. The greater the impact, the more shock damage. Also, should the shock damage be strong enough to penetrate through to open space, the damage is doubled, and will tear apart the ship. Sounds like fun eh?
