Galaxy invasion mode

Summary

Single-player game where players can seamlessly send/receive fleet(s) to & fro known galaxy instances created by other players.

Component: Galaxy

A known galaxy

Can be named and renamed
Is a record (png or database entry) of persistent star systems & ships per star system
Exists independent of active player sessions once registered/uploaded
Supports concurrent read from multiple player sessions if hosted.
Can be modified by players' actions
(Optional) Made read-only as a player-challenge to other players
(Optional) Players can take turn to attack/defend a known galaxy depending on galaxy format
(Optional) Can be modded or included with a mod, similar to that of ship designs
(Optional) Support list of enabled mods
(Optional) Support future space station & factions expansions

Name own galaxy
Opt to show/hide named galaxy from the public or designated official cosmoteer server
Seamlessly FTL Jump fleets to a known galaxy via vanilla Galaxy Map. Incompatible galaxies would be hidden.
Fight against AI-controlled ships/fleets in remote galaxy uploaded by other player
Sync/upload galaxy after battle to update the galaxy

How to minimize (re)download of ships in this mode when FTL jump to new galaxy?

clojelo While this is a great Idea, 2 problems can happen.

1# It could make some parts not as useful. The FTL drive is SUPPOSED to allow travel, as long as you have enough FTL fuel. When you remove a part of that, it makes the FTL drives utterly useless for Galaxy Travel. Maybe the way to fix this problem is that you still feed fuel to the StarGate, but if you try to make it to another galaxy with JUST the FTL drive, you would have to pay extra fuel. That way you can use both, and the Star gate could make fleets in Bounty Hunter easier to manage, as the FTL fuel could be cheaper with more and more ships, or the bigger ship you have, the less FTL fuel, but you need 90% or Higher FTL efficiency.

clojelo when you take over a galaxy in single player, you hoard your booty from your conquest and fight off invaders, giving you more money to build ships and space stations

i agree with you. FTL fuel is stil required for galaxy-to-galaxy FTL jump.

The concept of stargate/wormhole/fb is just a plot device to

Add mini-boss per galaxy
Add arbitrary strategic location for attack/defense

Yeah, it's a single player mode in a multi-player/multi-verse context.
Technical challenge is to make it seamless for single player experience:

Enemy fleets seamlessly appear in your galaxy when you're playing
Player can invade other galaxy with or without the other player online.
Player can opt-out the game mode to avoid spamming

2#. This would HAVE to be Singleplayer. Having lots of ships or really big ones lag out the game TREMENDOUSLY! It would have to be either

A/An singleplayer mode ONLY!

B.
Make it Local Multiplayer.

clojelo Yeah I agree with you. Wait...maybe it Stargates need a certain amount of fuel, but it never changes. Like if you have a fleet, it would still be the cost for 1 ship, but increased by the Number of ships (X), then add 10 and turn it into a percentage.

EXAMPLE
Number of ships: 5

5 x 10=50
50% x 20=10
10 + 20=30
(20 stands for the cost of ONE of the ships.)

So for 5 Ships at a StarGate, It would cost 30 FTL fuel. If you used the FTL drive, it would be 100 FTL fuel.

clojelo About the second problem... I think when the player leaves the game mode, they have 32 hour protection, and the recharge lasts a few hours. This way you first don't deal with AFK killers, And you also get rid of people that don't really play the game. Also, I think when you spawn in, you only deal with people WITH the same level AS YOU. (What I mean is How long they have played). If you have just began, you only deal with people that have a few minutes of experience with the game. However, if you have more like 50 days on the game, you deal with high tier people.

This game mode is proposed providing a in-game basis for player-created lores in the form of persistent galaxies. Therefore, i would imagine a known galaxy as a chess board rather than a multiplayer session.

A named galaxy serves as persistent chess board
Initial ships presented in the named galaxy are deployed by the player or AI (same as Bounty mode)
Other players would download a "copy" of named galaxy to own computer.
Game sessions is carried out between a player & AI-controlled lfeets locally on the player's PC.
After each battle, the game galaxy state is sync/uploaded with master copy if it were writable.
Players' fleet strength may or may not be balanced in the beginning -- such that a player can design his/her galaxy as a challenge for other other players to conquer.

It would be very interesting if named galaxy were in the form of png with embeded info -- then latest galaxy map can also be posted at forum/discord as player trophy or showing on-going war.

clojelo OHHHH... I thought you meant that when you are offline, Simply ANYONE that is online could simply come by, kill you, take your stuff, and go on with life, and when you come back you are broke.

clojelo This lore-related mode could also add in one thing. Making it to where if you post a faction on the Forum, and then you go to the Galaxy map, you get some sort of boost. This could be the thing to get Roleplay BACK into high gear and be at least tolerable to do. Here is what I am thinking.

You have a faction on the forum, and you enter the same name into the Galaxy. It asks the "Are you sure?" Question, and if you answer yes, The game will check if you have any roleplaying factions with the same name. It will then check if you have reports of bad behavior, or if you do well. If you get both of these right, you could get some sort of credit boost. If you have been bad, then it will stay the same as the base game. If you don't have a faction, it will stay the same. This could FINALLY drive out all the people that have been making roleplay un-fun.

Galaxy names ought to be independent from player-faction. Factions is one of the major features further down the roadmap. We can expect visual indicator of factions over Galaxy Map.

As mentioned, if named galaxy were in png format with embeded info, we might expect a folder at
Documents\My Games\Cosmoteer\Saved Galaxies\
Players could manually exchange custom galaxy over forum/discord.

clojelo ok.. Just thought it could be a neat idea! Still, your Idea SHOULD be implemented into the game. It sounds solid, would make some AWESOME battles, and you would have both A.I. AND players, well, playing!
