ROD
noun, abbreviation
Ring Of Death
A red circle that surrounds all Cosmoteer multiplayer games, that gradually shrinks in size as the game progresses, and causes continuous damage to any ships that enter it.
So, picture the scene! You’re playing a 1V1 match with your fleet of ships, all of which you designed yourself. They’re neither good nor horrible, but you’re still proud of them anyway! You approach the enemy, ready for anything! BUT you suddenly realise that you are versing against a massive wall! You’re ships fall, one by one. They’re design cannot compete with the significantly better opponent. You flee, and run to the edge of the ROD. There is no hope for you now! You change your direction, and the enemy closes in. You prepare to meet your doom! BUT the enemy flys past you! Their large ship simply lacks the turning power of your much smaller ships! Soon the arena closes in, and your remaining ships are left almost unscathed as the oponent falls apart in the inhospitable ROD. And somehow, somehow, you claim the victory!
My point here, is that the ROD does two things:
- Kills kiters
- Gives you cheap wins
Despite the first, intended use of the ROD, occuring practically never, the second function arises quite often. Winning games that you didn’t deserve. It’s fun AF of course, so I hope it doesn’t get changed or something. Of course, the upcoming kill count based games will probably be unwinnable with this tactic as well, considering the score would not go to any players since the damage would be caused by the arena. I just wanted to outline this issue.
So, my question is, what are your worst/best experiences with the ROD? Do you hate it? Love it? Should it be removed or should it stay? Should random crits be a thing?
All good questions, so post your answer below!
