RedAndCosmoteer (Depends, they didn´t start the fight, you ran into their territory, even if unknowingly, you did aswell ignore their warning, and I did not say, they showed no effect, they showed little effect, not only due to their armor but also due to the close range tactics and the environment, if the Cult would just run around and raid factions, they would admittedly be OP, however their nature and behaviour does balance that out, that is how the faction survived for nearly a year now. Also, the Cult does have the ingame stats, lore, backstory and history, to back their power level up.)
