Most weapons are good when paired with thrusters.
Combine ions with railguns for a good time. It's kind of like electros+ions except with longer range than everything else. Otherwise mix either ions or railguns with cannons for more long range fun.
Also build around the weapons you don't use. When you don't use lasers or EB, the game is staying out of laser+EB optimal range.
