SpaceCat About the hotkeys, I'm talking about shifting some of the decision-making that modders would be doing to ship designers. Letting people build ships where the pilots can prioritize power to weapons, shields or engines with a few keystrokes. Giving that kind power to ship designers makes it a lot easier to make creative and functional ships.

nop This is the use of boost thrusters that makes boosters just a more compressed normal thruster that requires some attention to operate.

Ahem NOO! -> The boost thruster has much more thrust but requires some attention.

And priorizing crew to certain tasks (ie priorizing power distribution) will be a thing in future most likely.
But i fear this might be a bit too much micromanaging for the average player.

SpaceCat The other thing I'm saying is that you can create something equivalent to a boost thruster with other available parts just by powering some of them on/off when you want more speed. The normal thrusters are "primitives" which can be used in all kinds of ways, the booster is like a combination of those primitives with some UI capabilities which would be more useful if they were more generic.

Ships that detach parts but trap these detached parts appear to cause massive game slow down in both 0.14.2 rc versions. This did not happen in 0.14.1.

It appears that a change to prevent ships from overlapping (and getting stuck) has made the collision handling in these cases very computation heavy.

Equalizer Thanks, I'll look into that. (Pretty sure it was a problem in 0.14.0 as well, and for fast-moving ships in 0.14.1.)

In rc2 ships continue to avoid each other instead of attacking when given attack order.

Instead of attacking straight on they instead first turn and then fly past each other.

This same issue can be reproduced by having 2 crescent wrath fight each other in battle helper.

Bug: The game crash whenever I remove a ship that's being attacked by ion beam. This happens in rc1 too.

I haven't figured out how to get the physics of collision damage working in a way that feels good, especially if you want ramming to be an actual viable option a la that scene in Rogue One.

Walt Maybe not like in rogue one, but maybe ftl kamikaze if you get desperate? Ship explodes with penetration and explosion is linearly dependent on ship's size?

boost-thrusters balance in a nutshell

Walt I think having a constant power drain regardless of thrust level is important for the gameplay so that you have to time your boost mode properly

Walt It's possible the increased power consumption caused by the engine room makes it not worth using them with Boost Thrusters. Perhaps it would be best if the Engine Room increased the Boost Thruster's force but not its power consumption.

@Walt - Trying to convince you of your own ideas here - almost sure these are the solution!
