...after a few Manifold blinks some of the EL ended up in what seemed to another factions territory, spectrum sweeps showed signs of disruptor and entropy technology from past battles, the remaining drones were likely alarmed immedietly, the origin of the signal had been around these borders...
Upon closer inspection the signals patterns seemed to match up with a scaled up version of the areas background radiation, whatever had tried to get into the EL network came from here...

the NH teck bible ive found it to be a good way to explain any factions Tech and through a little bit of reading (or in NH case alot)you can uncover weakness and use them leading to a more organic game play experience.)

Active sensors work on the principle that something emits (space stuff) to another ship then the (space stuff) bounces off the ship and returns somehow giving the sensor user accurate data and details of the ship.)
Active sensors are like active sonar where they emit pings that hit the target then bounce back kinda like this.

IronCross42 NH sensors are based on the concept of Quantum Replication, it wasn't explained in the Tech Bible entirely because I forgot to add it in with the latest update. The exact details on this is vague (I'm not too knowledgeable on detection technology and quantum physics) so I'll go over the idea. They essentially scan the target at the quantum level (quarks n' stuff) then digitally replicate the object atom by atom. This is what the NH used to replicate the High Imperium Reality Editor, of course it does have limitations. Passive observation isn't powerful enough to go deeper than 20 meters (on average) of materials. This limitation is not present on Active observation. I would assume the bulk of those scans are passive with some being active scans.
Active Scans will be detected while Passives are not.
