Since many have been asking for diagonal mirroring which is too troublesome to implement. My suggestion is to have diagonal selection instead. This would allow copy paste. So you basically copy one side and paste-mirror-rotate it to the other side.
This requires a new selection UI button, though. The starting point would always be a peak corner going diagonally in every which way the mouse moves.
