(Your three hours is up. The Unity shall now do their thing. This is a continuation of my posts from the previous thread. It was an Imperial world that the Hegemony never attacked.)
It took hours, but the combined fury of the destroyers and bombers eventually overwhelmed the planetary shields, causing them to shut down, lest the emitters suffer physical damage. As the shield flared and died, the bombers began to scream down to the planetary surface through the atmosphere as a metal hurricane of wrath. These strike craft, designed to threaten battlecruisers, made short work of the defence platforms both on the surface, and in the atmosphere. However, they focused their fire upon a region of land hundreds of kilometres away from any settlement or infrastructure. Following hot on the bomber's heels was a caravan of transports, launched from the Second Unity Fleet in orbit. As the transports landed, they unloaded their cargo of construction materials and drones.
"Enemies of the Unity, hear me; We have made planetfall. You have ignored all opportunities for surrender. Let this be an object lesson for such obstinance."
The bombers took a defensive perimeter, orbiting the construction site at a fifty kilometre radius. The transports began to shuttle back and forth from the surface to orbit, each time bringing more materials and construction drones. In only a few scant hours,a massive structure began to form. Mere hours late, thanks to the constant influx of constructors, the structure was complete. The flanged spires atop the structure began to spin, and the people of the planet began to think.
The planetary government ceased its squabbling and infighting, and began to think on the course of this war. The Hegemony delivered death and devastation wherever it went. The Unity made a mockery of the Empire with how easily it was allowed to have this world. The Unity offered multiple chances at surrender, and each time, they were ignored.
In light of this evidence, the planetary government voted unanimously to separate from the Empire. Now independent, they petitioned to the Second Unity Fleet to spare them. The Second Admiral accepted,on the condition that they become citizens of the Unity. The planetary government unanimously agreed. The planet was rechristened as Planet Ruthgar, and the Unity's ships left the planet's atmosphere. The fleet reformed, excepting the recon frigates, and began to take up defensive positions in the system, keenly aware that the Empire will not wake this lying down... Assuming the vaunted Thrawn was anything of a strategist and tactician that people said.
In the span of as day,the Unity had captured an entire system, and turned its population and infrastructure to its own side without a single loss of life on their side,or in the civilian population. A chilling prospect.
"Thrawn. Let me address you directly."
The psychic message rippled through space; The entire Empire would hear it.
"I am Second Admiral Haruru. Perhaps now,you understand the folly of instigating a war with a force you know nothing about. And now, perhaps, you'll pause, and think, about the folly of instigating a war against the Hegemony, the Unity,or any that they might call friend. We are now withdrawing from this war,and will cease hostilities with the Empire, unless they bring violence to us,or our allies. This planet, now dubbed Ruthgar, will remain ours. This war is over."
The tone brooked no argument.
