I'm curious, how does everyone organize and classify their ships?

My own system is based on price:
0-100k -shuttle
101k-250k -corvette
251k-500k -frigate
501k-1m -cruiser
1.1m-1.5m -battlecruiser
1.51m-2m -battleship
2.1m> -dreadnought

Dibs but what if a have a ship that cost 2,05mil?

Dibs depends on the Faction some factions will be more or less advanced then others, so some factions battelships will be anothers Destroyer

      My old scaling was
      Luna (Less than 100k (Exceptions)
Eclipse (Less than 300k (Exceptions, some are slightly above)
Umbra Less than a million (Usually)
Nova (Anything more than a million)
My new scaling... is yet to be decided...

I basically meant over the 2m mark. I'm lazy when on my phone 😅

Wouldn't the role of the ship come into play? a 100k ship could be a number of things depending on the context. Price can't sum up everything about the ship.

      Dibs tis ok 😃

True, mine is not a perfect system. Do you organize your own ships by role?

The Second Tau Empire ship classification guide: (probably wrong, not on pc at the moment)
          Rather than go off cost:

Fighters/Bombers: very small, maximum 8x8 ships.
Patrol boats: small, maximum 14 length ships, made to patrol sectors.
Corvettes: Small, anti fighter escorts, maximum size: 20 length, usually less
Destroyer: Small, anti capital ship, maximum size: 20 length, usually less
Frigates: Small, anti ship escorts, maximum size: 60 length
Light Cruiser: Small, independent ships, maximum size: 80 length
Medium Cruiser: small to medium, maximum size: 150 length
Heavy/Battle Cruiser: medium to large ships, maximum size: 200-250 in length
Carriers: all sizes, maximum size anything in length, must carry fighters/bombers
Battleship: large, minimum size: 200 in length, must have "sufficient" firepower

          Sub roles:
          ECMS: electronic warfare ship
          FAV: fast attack vessel
          Escort: Escort designated ships
          LRSS: Long range support ship
FSV: Fleet supply vessel (ftl fuel, repairs, ect)

If a ship is wider than it is long, is the measurement then taken by width?

            Dibs
            Pretty much, yes I suppose
The STE use purely broadside ships, and as of recently, use a lot of fighter craft and carriers.
They simply don't use frontal firing ships, so the guide would have to be different if they did.

            An example of STE ships
Smallest visible are corvettes (the tiny grey triangles)
Next are the darker grey triangles, Frigates
The two ships with rings are battleships
            Front ship is a FSV

Thats why I need a new system.
            (I'm workin on one..)
