Conection issues

Hi,
im the one from many who has conection issues and MP game is very unstable. But, I have no idea why.
Made some ping tests, and can tell that from general point of view, error looks like to be on server side :S
Results in pictures.
Can be done something with it ?

I do not believe that distance from NY to server isnot enoug far to add over 1 sec to ping :S

Well the server is IN New York, so you definitely shouldn't be a bad ping unless you have a really bad internet connection. I live in California, and whenever I check I get about 90-100 ping.

First of all, the ping next to each server on the server list is only ever calculated once when it loads the server list and can sometimes be unusually high if there's a momentary spike while checking ping. It is not your current ping to the server while connected. (I realize this is misleading, so I've made a note to fix this.) The actual ping to the currently connected server is displayed to the right of the menu button, which I can see is in the "yellow" zone. What is that ping if you hover the mouse over it? That's the ping that actually matters.

Some more questions:

How are the above ping numbers measured? Are those pings to the server, or is that just a general internet connection test?
Open up a command prompt and type ping 159.89.35.6 to measure ping to the server. Please post your results. (For comparison, mine are Minimum = 84ms, Maximum = 86ms, Average = 84ms.)
How many players/games are on the server when you are getting ping this high? If it's a lot, it could be the server is overloaded?
What kind of internet connection do you have? (Cable? DSL? Dial-up????)

This is the first I've heard of anyone in North America having ping or connection problems to the server. Is anyone else in North America having problems?

Walt Im in Europe, and lot of us here has conection problem.
worst it that it is really very fluctuating, few hours is conection perfect and than i have ping from nightmare,
next time i will see that tragedy I make corect screen, record i remeber is 3650 Ms in bar that matters.

And honestly my internet provider is from previous century, I have las mile (7 miles) Wi fi only before i get to optic fibre. But from test looks that issues are somewhere else than on my provider side 🙁

Will keep testing, than we will see.

Not sure why but Cosmoteer is extremely sensitive to network congestion.

Normally I have ~110ms ping to the serve but if I run anything that loads down the network (ex. run a speed test that by design will max the network) the ping goes up to ~1000ms very quickly.

Mc2 Thanks for the screens, that is indeed very strange. I need more info, though. Next time you experience bad server lag, please do the following:

Run Cosmoteer in Developer Mode (shortcut in start menu)
Go into multiplayer and connect to the server.
Press Ctrl+~ to open the developer menu.
Select App->Debug Mode->Full
Take a screenshot and post it here.

Walt Is there something wrong on my (and some others) side what can i try to fix somehow ( like finding new provider) ? Or solution will be on Comsmotter program side with future update.

Was checking today so screen number one is with lovely ping, while screen 2 was taken just 2 minutes later. and this fluctuation more or les continue :S

Mc2 I really don't know where the problem lies. It could be a Cosmoteer issue, it could be an issue with your ISP, or it could be somewhere in between. The fact that the command prompt ping is much lower than the in-game ping would suggest it's a Cosmoteer issue. But the fact that no one else has complained to me about this issue would suggest it's not. So really, I have no idea.

One question I have for you is whether you're experiencing issues when connecting to North American servers in other games.

Walt Ah, i meet several others in europe whose games get verty often disconected.

Unfortunatelly, I play only cosmotter, and this is first game I conect to US server ever, so i cannot compare.
In europe my conection was more or less astable.

P.S.: My Pc is Assus, it could by my pc fault 😃 😃

P.P.:S It started with 13.9, so maybe with 14.1. could get better, you newer know, maybe i just need to be patient 😃

Walt I switched provider, and looks that issue is on game side. 2 version ago connection was ok, so i get patient for now and cry later if it will not get better with new version/s.

Mc2 What was the last version that worked for you? The netcode hasn't changed since 0.13.7 and the server hasn't been updated since then either.

Walt I try to persuade my od brain to remind me. But that bad conection issues are for preaty long time, co switch from 13.7 to 13.8 could be the pain point, because i managed to be member of 1 cosmoteer league session without no serious problems and some time after that it started, and league ended before switch to 13.8.

Maybe this is reason. maybe i have hardware which does not like this version and next one will be ok, till game will be finished lots of this kind of issues will com to be solved. Ill be patient, I´m sligthly sad that i cannot crush others in MP, but that is not reasont to leave so wonderful game 😃 I trust that full game, with proper servers will not have problems like this.
