the game wont let me activate the explosive charges for some reason
This is due to 0.14.0 resetting tutorial progress, which prevents you from selecting individual parts until you see the proper tutorial or turn off tutorials altogether. So just turn off tutorials (Settings->Misc) and it should work again.
