Walt So like, an attack command that rotates but doesn't move?
Yes rotate but stay at coordinates - or get to new coordinates but face enemy!
Move to new coordinates freely - but your ship tries to maintain rotation towards attack-target.
Kind of similar to the "omnidirectional-travel" idea, only that rotation/orientation is not fixed but "face-enemy".
Would rather see this via icon and not keyboard shortcut- expalining in next qote:
Walt Weapon targets are remembered even after canceling an attack command (because target orders are not actually tied to the attack command), so if you get back in range/arc of the target, the weapons will re-acquire it.
Very Nice to be sure of that! So half of this idea is already implemented!
SO maybe when selecting new targets while holding ctrl (is this shortcut not already used?) you select new targets but the ship keeps flying towards its move-command-coordinates.
Like: Ctrl&Attack unties the target selection from going into attack-movement-mode.
Then again can you even focus ona non targeted ship closely enough to select specific parts(?)
Maybe this whole idea comes down to a switch where you link/unlink attack mode from attack-movement mode.
This idea might still be green behind it's ears - just me having 2 much ideas 😉
(PS.: i have noticed that with new thrusters it has even become more critical that collision avoidance is always on - collision avoidance makes sense for travelling but almost never in fight or whenever enemy crafts are involved.)
