Explosive Reactive Armor

I was playing around with the explosive charges and made a sort of ERA type armor that you could apply around your ship the armor takes damage then once the armor is gone the charge explodes removing most of the armor so the weapons inside can fire I noticed it works quite well with missiles and layering it
Pros
- Good against missiles and other weapons
- Little to no debris after armor is destroyed
- Easy to apply

Cons
- Quite expencive
- Large size
- Heavy
- Chance to damage surrounding modules

Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to just have one explosive charge right at the attachment point? And less volatile.

The armor tends to get stuck when blown off and block whatever its protecting which defeats the purpose much less expensive but also less efficient.

GreenTea_Neko technically speaking, The ship would be bigger, but if the ship is small, it would help.

Not exactly ERA, more just standard applique. ERA is based on sandwiching an explosive charge between 2 thin steel plates. Upon impact, the explosive detonates, taking out the warhead with it. Since the warhead isnt actually hitting the main true armor of the tank, it fails to penetrate and causing significant damage (unless the enemy is using APFS). Still, i do enjoy seeing the idea of applying modern armor tech on futuristic settings
