Just some of my dream Sci Fi weapons.
I loved the Expanding Sphere Generators from SFB. I know 360deg weapons are impractical and op for Cosmoteer but expanding wave weapons might be a nice compromise; Energy arcs like shields, that travel outwards and expand as they go.
Wave guns :
Expanding Plasma Wave (EPW)
Slow, expanding, Wavefront. Has long charge time and very high energy use, and also does a lot of damage to anything it hits. It would also have a diminishing effect the bigger it gets., and at medium range, the damage would be barely noticeable. As well as damaging any ship parts it hits (dissipates on contact, but only the section of the wave that hits anything), it also destroys missiles on contact too. Does normal damage to shields, and extra damage to armour.
Gravity Distortion Wave (GDW)
Expensive part, Medium-power use, short recharge time (1.8 sec). The GDW moves faster and further than the EPW, it also travels through any object it hits without stopping (if not possible, then has maximum penetration and increased damage), medium-long range, with wave strength dissipating only slightly with distance. The GDW only does minimal damage ( 10hp / part hit) however it ignores shields and travels through everything without stopping. Damage is multiplied by part size, so 2x1 part does 2x damage, 2x2 part does 4x damage etc...
Does no damage to missiles or shields.
Magnetic Pulse Wave (MPW)
Similar too Electro bolts, but does much more damage and fires much less often. Extra damage to shields, less damage to armour. Medium energy use, also an expanding wave with dissipating energy, shorter range than the EPW. Stuns missiles on contact.(can missiles take partial damage?).
Phased Shield Wave (PSW)
Starts like a shield, but much stronger. It expands and travels outwards slowly, absorbing any hits as it goes, only energy weapons reduce its strength, shells/missiles are stopped but don't affect it. As it expands its strength is gradually reduced, when it reaches zero strength it dissipates completely. More damage (energy only) will make it disappear sooner. Cannot be re-charged when in use, takes a lot more energy than normal shields, and has a much larger "dead zone" so that it cannot be placed behind armour.
On contact with armour/parts of other ships, will inflict 50dmg/sec per part. Also does damage to friendly parts it hits, this does not reduce the shields strength. On contact with enemy shields will inflict and take equal damage with the shield, but takes no damage from friendly shields.
