Due to the way multiplayer is implemented, I highly doubt ships crashing would cause a disconnect (ships crashing doesn't result in any additional packets getting sent), though it's possible it could be a cause of desyncs.
I've already made a bunch of improvements that should make the next update more stable. Also, the game is currently sending far more data than it needs to, because I'm having it send diagnostic data to track down the causes of desyncs. Hopefully I can get those desyncs fixed and can then remove the diagnostic data.
