SenpaiFujiko Cosmoteer will not be totally completed when it launches on Steam. And no, different versions of the game are not and will never be compatible with each other.

dear walt, i am afraid i cannot buy the steam version, will the cosmoteer website be deleted or the download option, or even the community itself? because it would make sense for you to delete this website to atract people to buy the game, but we love the free to play at this moment, we love you to give us mods, i know you need money to develop the game even more, but please don't delete the website, and please don't stop making mods... this game is awesome

He never said anything about deleting this site, and the free to play version will still be around, but it won't be updated. Walt said himself:

When the game launches on Steam, the free version will no longer be updated. (Except for maybe bugfixes.)

Edit: Mods? As in updates, because I think that he doesn't make mods, apart from the built in ones.
