The CNF fleet guide to guerrilla warfare
Upon careful consideration the leader of High Tau-A1 is willing to divulge their secrets in the hopes of assisting future allies.
note: The Tau-Confederacy has been renamed to The Tau-Empire

DISCLAIMER: The chance of ever being able to use a strategy like this is slim and more likley pointless in reality. Im not some master fleet tactician and have no clue what im doing, just thought it might be fun to post this and flesh out the Tau-Confederacy and its tactics a bit more.

During simulations of potential oppodents in the Rise of the Ancients war, It was found that regular space combat proved inneffective against some ships and her crews. For example:
A small CNF Taskforce
This taskforce (consisting of three main vessels and a fighter wing, "CNF Bested" the left of the big ships CNF Unruly the centremost ship of the three and CNF Jester on the right) has been sent to destroy a single (for some reason unguarded) Super Tartarus. (Made by DarkPearl, check his ships and faction out here: Zankaran Infinity Empire)
The aforementioned target ship
So, Standard Combat time:
Standard Attack Vector
The initial flamethrower fighter attack is easily repeled by the Super Tartarus, only suffering damage to one side.
CNF Unruly taking heavy fire from the ship once in range.
With CNF Unruly Destroyed the Super Tartarus turns to face the CNF Bested (at the top), and easily destroys its command bridge leaving only CNF Jester to finish the battle
with a final Beam laser broadside, the CNF Jester is gone.
The Super Tartarus after the battle, with only "minor" damage to one side (although its lack of fire extinguishers would eventualy destroy the ship, not before it could warp away and repair however.)
So then, it is clear against a larger more organized oppodent it is not good to use standard fleet tactics.
Guerrilla warfare time!:
The second attack vectors, (if no FTL use is allowed in battle then just use fast ships and run for your life. Although this strategy makes use of ftl, you don't have to aswell)
also, for this scenario the Super Tartarus won't turn until the main ships are in range, and will prioritize facing the larger ships, not turning to face the fighter wing.
The fighter wing lining up for a attack on the Super Tartarus's engines while the main ships edge closer
The Wing of fighters unleashes flames upon the engines, burning them to a crisp, however they will not survive the huge ships drone attacks and soon are destroyed
The huge vessel turns to face its guns upon the trio of ships, ready to rip them apart
The three ships engage warp drives and "flee", one being heavily damaged in the process
The Super Tartarus is left burning in space, this in its self would be good enough for guerrilla warfare, however in this scenario we will send back the two ships that are in fighting condition to try and finish the ship off.
The two ships left of the first three return, commencing an attack on the huge vessel. the Topmost will eventually attempt to distract the Super Tartarus for long enough for the bottom ship to get to the perfect distance to attack without return fire.
The ships exchange fire. damaging eachother.
The Formerly topmost ship is heavily damaged, retreating and buying the Leftmost ship time to get into a better position away from the powerful beam weaponary of the Super Tartarus.
The Cruiser is now free to engage the Super Tartarus out of range of its major Calibre.
CONCLUSION: not all that useful in reality (as mentioned in the disclaimer), this strategy could be useful if my ships were not terrible, but hey. At least it kind of works.
And more importantly, check out Darkpearl's faction do it, his stuff is infinitely better than mine.
But what if you has no ship? What even is a cosmoteer?
There is a in built function that instantly unleashes the power of ten billion suns upon enemy:
