We live in black holes because are ships are adapted so that the black hole has no effect on them. Gravitic compensators and void hardened materials allow us this.
We live in black holes simply because then it is impossible to invade our "homeworlds" as you call them without very advanced tech.
We originally lived on planets but were nearly destroyed.
We usually try to avoid setting up blackholes near inhabited systems. Usually.

TheLastBeacon You notice the EF and TTE ships around one particular black hole. A TTE scout ship appears to have advanced further forward. It is in Comms contact with something. These black holes appear to be artificial.

Gladiaxa No the energy isn't from a black hole trying to absorb the fleet. It's something turning on inside the black holes. Not aggressive, the energy reading is similar to that of high power focussed sensor arrays.

The Zankaran Infinity Empire sends a Breacher (singularitys are just black holes with no event horizon) and two Hunters to explore the system.No breaches are open yet.

DarkPearl The ships, and breacher in particular, draw the attention of lots of scanner pings. To all present: Lots of small energy signatures start appearing inside the black holes. These vary in size and are similar to ships. They must think the breacher is some kind of weapon.
