Will there ever be planets in the game (i don't care if it's just a background thing, we need something to break up the repetitive background)

I'm not planning to have planets that you can land on, but yes, I'm planning to have planets and other large objects in the background to give a better sense of location and make the background less repetitive.

Could Asteroids be parts of the normal game instead of just a creative feature? Possibly be able land on and mine precious materials on said asteroid for money, and/or be able to create defensive bases on asteroids for engaging enemy starships to destroy or weaken them?

Walt I'm thinking about a system similar to Battlefleet Gothic where multiplayer would involve a set amount of credits available for ship spawning each battle (and creative multiplayer); this would probably be the most straightforward system.

It would be really cool to have the ability to set up a continuous game server like Minecraft or Terraria though. You would be able to create your own factions from resources you mined and fight other factions.

Teams for multiplayer games would be nice.
Also, medium-length games can be built around Minecraft's Annihilation gamemode(Change the mines into asteroids, and anyone mining in their team and everyone in the team gets money)or Istroid(Capture points).

I think that people could keep track of friends and clans if the feature was added, so they could set up stations of there own to claim part of a solar system in multiplayer, and then people could go to war to expand, but this would be hard to do, maybe like Minecraft when the game loads up chunks.

yeah black holes would be a cool thing like if you ftl over and over and oever again then you will ftl into a blackhole or sumthing
