Actually from my point of view, splash damage from missiles has really no sense.

@Walt are you sure wee need more and stronger missiles? Actually if you look in evensts rules, most often used rule is no missiles/no missile kites. And as i supoose, game should work kind of stone paper scissors base, but if ship is completelly covered with PD, and its not able to stop full missile ship, how is this balanced?
I would suggest that at least, shiels will stop any kind of energy, even splash damage from missile which mysteriously pass trough, when high focused beams and high velocity shells cannot.
