So i went to check on Cosmoteer on Indiedb, and guess what?

COSMOTEER MADE IT INTO THE TOP 100 MOST POPULAR GAMES!!!

This happened when walt released the new version with the improved graphics, then the ratings skyrocketed!
GJ, walt. This proves that what you're doing with this game is great! Idk how long will it stay there, but the longer it does, the more players might discover it!

Hmm, the top ten are kind of horror or survival themed. It might be difficult to get those people's attention.

I believe it is number of page visitors. You can see the visitors jump right after I posted that article about the particle effects:

Curiously, this doesn't seem to have actually lead to an increase in the number of people actually playing the game:

Too bad. So it really doesn't represent actual popularity.
I guess the best way to garner more people is via youtube. I see an indie game review player from japan made the most videos.

That first spike in the bottom graph is when I made the IndieDB page. Even after the spike was over, the number of players has been on average more than twice what it was before. So it's not like IndieDB had no effect.

Walt OK, here's the list of high traffic game related sites by Alexa:

These should be the best places to get attention. The problem is how to keep people interested long term.

Lafiel Most of those sites are either sites for specific games/publishers or major gaming news sites that probably won't be interested in covering Cosmoteer until the game is more complete.

The one major exception I saw on that list is itch.io, which I assumed wouldn't be as high as IndieDB, but I don't even see IndieDB on that list. No reason not to have an itch.io page -- I'll probably do that for the next release.

Walt Yeah, and they are all commercial related. It probably would be a good idea to look for a large gaming forum or similar. Frankly, I don't know any large one other than gamesfaq.
