It's possible to make smaller packages but right now it's not worth the effort. There are a number of problems to consider:
- As one package Abh is extremely efficient due to inter-dependencies. This complicates things when forking it.
- Cosmoteer is far from stable in terms of development. Any new version brings new changes which potentially renders Abh unuseable. This mean maintenance is a big issue. Dividing it would cause more work.
- ID conflict will arise from forking, unless Abh as a whole is broken into packages. Otherwise making new ID would bloat everything when parts of Abh are needed, due to redundancy.
It's best to wait until mod dependencies becomes available. I hope this will avoid ID conflicts and allows mods to access the resources of another. This would preserve efficiency and avoid creating redundancies.
Aside from these points, another is how to divide Abh. Other than phasers and photon torpedoes most technologies are not uniquely Star Trek. That's why technology level supersedes universes. I've only added universe names for orientation. Things like hull pieces have to be available to all. In this view Abh could be split into dozens of packages which in itself could create user confusion. Especially when sharing ships and not remembering which packages are needed.
I'm not against splitting it in general but there are too many issues right now.
