In the year 1704, human colonists were abducted from the Americas by the Shaq'an, a group of aliens from a far away galaxy. The Shaqar Dominion had conquered its galaxy and enslaved all other races in it. The human captives were added to the slave force. By 1800, however, the Shaqar Republic passed the Shaqar Slavery Act, abolishing slavery. The Shaqar Equality Act was passed in 1851, ending discrimination against the minority races.
In 1942, a terrible disease swept through the galaxy. The Crimson Plague wiped out everything that wasn't human. Suspicion turned towards the humans, who seemed to be immune, but that ended when most of the humans volunteered for testing to develop a cure. The research was successful, but by the time the cure was ready in 1995, hundreds of races had been wiped out and those that remained had been driven to near extinction.
The primarily human Republic of Order rose to power as humans became the majority. Terrorist groups worked to eliminate what was left of the non-humans while the corrupt council of the Republic did nothing to stop them. Seeing this, Senator Kevin Harrison proposed the Dominance Act in 2039, disbanding the corrupt council and giving the power to one person who would be elected by the public. While most of the council disapproved of Senator Harrison's proposal, the public, sick of the terrorists, forced the council to pass it in 2040.
Lord Harrison was elected as the leader of the Dominion of order and he vowed to wipe out the terrorists. But he became corrupted by power.
Lord Harrison had been a truly evil ruler, forcing the vast majority of his subjects to work endlessly building his military. Inevitably, Harrison was overthrown in an uprising led by Commander Daniel Marcus. The entire galaxy turned against Harrison, most of his own military included. Harrison retreated to his personal fortress, the most defensible place in the galaxy, where loyalist forces were able to hold off the attacking forces. Daniel's sister, Susan Marcus ended the stalemate when she stealthily infiltrated the fort and assassinated Harrison.
Daniel Marcus became the new lord of the Dominion of Order, which he immediately abolished. Using the fleets created during Harrison's rule, Lord Marcus created the Protectors of Innocence, dedicated to defending the weak and bringing justice to those who would exploit their weakness for their own gains.
