Nice. I forgot about the beam shader making waves.
I didn't look at the shader but I know you can make it wave a lot more. Also it might look better if the flag's end are uneven and worn-like.

Well, this has beaten it, since it can be created really easy, and people can change it in seconds, I need a day to create a good flag, really time consuming

Thanks, Lafiel, I like your ideas.

Added horizontal fluttering effect as suggested in new version.

... could have picked a different model. PS: No offense, Homer.

Can't wait to see Abh's adaptation.
Correction: Abh focus on innovation.
Abh Mod innovation and influence history

@clojelo Thank you for this mod!

TheLastBeacon Thank you for this mod!

You're more than welcome -- it was you who raised the idea of custom flags.

PS: Just added support for flipping horizontally/vertically in-game

clojelo Can't wait to see Abh's adaptation.

Abh is an innovative functions and building options mod, there is not much interest in flags. Also it can't afford to waste memory usage on just anything either.
Well, since the Bioenergetic Beam in v0.4.4 and briefing room in v0.4.7 I had eyed holographic projection with animation which do not work with shaders as is. I gave up holographic animation due to sprites and memory usage. There is only one case I've that could profit from this, although, I already used a different solution for the docking station's airlock bridge.

Indeed, flags are part of millennium-old Terran traditions when their ancestors were still warring on planet(s) with atmosphere and light/moderate gravity. Unique flags with tedious color codes and patterns were designed to identify texa & sovereignties, and to mark geographical boundaries.

Although such primitive mechanism is no longer valid in the Cosmo Age, some Terran factions still uphold the tradition in one way or another.

A more recent example, The Republic of Alignment's border enforcer

enter image description here

TheLastBeacon This is the Border Enforcer. It is only made to warn the Republic that danger is coming or a small threat has been averted. Only has 3 small lasers on one side. The other side wears the Flag of Alignment.

Oh I do want all enemies to follow such ideas. Makes life easier.

clojelo Thanks for using my example!

TheLastBeacon Thanks for using my example!

Remember to update the mod -- latest version released on 29 Sept has extra goodies
- Horizontal fluttering effect suggested by Lafiel
- Support horizontal/vertical flip in Build mode

Experiment with torn banners (mirrored)

true colors

The real fun would begin AFTER the initial hype --- when factions, countries, cults, space stations, arenas & courses, tournament organizers, etc started experimenting & showcasing their crazy colors.

Open to suggestion for larger flag emitters from playtests and feedback.

clojelo You should look at making it actually wave instead of getting bigger in one area and smaller in another. Still a cool looking and very original idea.

The Torn Banner is amazing!

How do I update mods? I'm still quite new.

Just make sizePulseUOffsetFactorvalue large will increase the waving. Also aside from the pole end all other edges should get more transparent toward the outside that will make the waving look even better than just the worn edges alone. Don't make the transparent band area too wide or won' look solid enough for a flag.

TheLastBeacon How do I update mods? I'm still quite new.

Step 1 Make a backup copy of your custom flags at
Documents\My Games\Cosmoteer\hologram_flag\Flags
Entire mod folder will be overwritten anew.

Step 2 Download latest hologram_flag.zip file from Google Drive

Step 3 Use in-game Mods Manager to install mod from the downloaded zip. Overwrite existing mod when prompted. Step-by-step instructions of installing mod can be found at Modding:How to install and use mod packages.

You're totally right about the wave pattern.

Update: Applied S-wave shader to flag 2 emitters.

    6 days later

wow, just. by god. SOME day I might try this (for now, I will remain lazy)

clojelo Are you okay with it if I took some of your weapon code? For my other mod, it wont turn into a flag or anything, but something way different

Namek Are you okay with it if I took some of your weapon code? For my other mod, it wont turn into a flag or anything, but something way different

    Sure, i'm ok.
All code were adapted from vanilla parts -- i don't own nothing.
"...something way different." -- smells like fun.
