You could build a city with multiple layers, each disconnected from each other. That could be cool.
I still want to make a better fighter too. Maybe have one bay with a disposable fighter and one bay with a FTL capable fighter

xPLAYn Your Super destroyer is pretty cool. I don't think the cannon ammo storage is doing anything for you. IMO it's just for cheating in tournaments (no factories) or playing ultra defensively and having your factories in a center location protected (too slow)
You probably have over double the reactors you need. As you can see in the screenshot below your ship is prone to chain reactor explosions. Reducing reactor count and adding armor (around reactors) and nearby fire extinguishes will help solve that.
Your PD areas should be fine on just energy storage for the duration of a battle (not vs a missile spammer though)
I just think standard are so much better then large cannons. You lose range but gain accuracy and higher dps. Much cheaper too.
The wiki says otherwise, but 1 factory per 1 large cannon and 1 factories per 2 standard cannon (if factories are close by.) Add a layer of armor between cannons and factories if you can.
I think there is still no benefit to more then one sensor atm.
A technique I use to balance ships is to cut a section/module out, delete the rest of the ship then balance out energy use and crew, then paste it back into the ship.
Another handy tool is a target dummy. These are great for testing out ships. Seeing if any cannons stop firing or crew are being under utilized. Though remember to account for shield energy and crew use. (about 8 crew and 1 reactor per 2 shields)
Trumps wall. I just hate missile spammers. Same problems mostly, too much unprotected power. Take a look at @Subby84 's missile spammer:
It's a really efficient beast and should give you some ideas if you want to improve your ship. This type of ship is just so cheesy and boring to fight against or with though. I like side missiles to clean up larger ships and always use this:

if we are on the topic of missile spam, i want to forfit my most OP missile build which i uncreatively call "ultimate missile boat" and i have been able to kill any vanilla build with.
is now packing even more insanity with a + Carrier Variant.
which i have managed to shove 4 "mega missile boats" (yes i am not very creative with these names) into it...
