Lafiel I don't think tags will necessary make it better in this view. With the posts and threads distributed outside a mod's dedicated section they will likely get lost and forgotten.
I don't really follow the logic here. A tag is basically it's own section and is independently searchable and viewable as if it is its own section. There's actually no difference between tags and sections, other than a post can only be in one section but can have multiple tags.
Although if the criticism is that people won't properly tag their posts, then yeah, I think that's a legit criticism of my above proposal.
Bubbet I still don't understand how each mod developer is going to get their own tag, isn't that going to come with a problem when enough people meet the criteria?
Depends on exactly how it's implemented. If mods that pass some threshold (say >200 posts) just get their own tag/section, that's probably workable so long as all the tags/sections don't overcrowd the section list on the left.
But if I also have to give special permissions to mod creators to lock/sticky topics in their own section (like Lafiel can currently do), that is a lot more work on my end, and I've decided I don't want to do that.
Bubbet I still like the idea of having a separate mods category for those who meet the criteria, and then get one thread in there.
I don't see how this really solves the problem of mod threads getting extremely long and hard to follow?
Okay, so updated proposal:
- Divide the current
Mods
section into Small Mods
and Big Mods
(or Popular Mods
, or something like that).
- Every qualifying mods (>200 posts) can request to be moved to
Big Mods
. Every such mod gets its own sub-section in Big Mods
. (Those sub-sections won't appear on the left until Big Mods
is clicked.)
- No one would be able to create topics in the top-level
Big Mods
section, but everyone would be able to create topics in any sub-section. Mod creators would not have any special permissions for their sub-section. (They could request a moderator to lock a topic when desired.)
- Mod creators would still be welcome to use the wiki and start new topics within their section as they deem fit.
