This ships, when given a plain attack order, move towards the target "head on" - attack it with front lasers - then turn to attack via the broadside. (No command handle fiddling required - but can be useful ofc.)
They feature lasers, electro bolts and point defense in addition to the main weaponry.
All (but one) are rather "unhasty" ships - so more "urgent" escorts are a good idea.

A bit of a weird broadside ship. I dont think I have seen many with only one side that can broadside.

Namek not likely. One side lacks any weaponry to take out flanking threats. If the ship doesn't turn around, the flanking ships will eventually chew through the vulnerable side armor and kill the entire ship. If the ship does turn around to kill the flankers, the targets it was already facing will take advantage a shoot the vulnerable side. Thus ship would rely on other ships to cover its blindsides. I doubt that is great for logistics

If the vulnerable side is actually protected with thick armor and multiple shields, that added weight would require more thrusters and more internal volume. The added armor, shields and thrusters should make you wonder "which is easier to do? More armor, shields and thrusters or 1 or 2 smaller ships to cover and support?".

TurboTwinky28 That is actually the reason for splitter designs. Ship efficiency peaks in the 600k-1.2 mil range if I'm not wrong, and any bigger than that and you might as well make splitters which can bring a lot more firepower and survivability.

One more reason for "one sided" designs is that in many situations you only use one side anyway and thus the second side is only ballast to carry.
In fights with multiple ships two armed sides are ofc a major advantage.
