Hodyn Exodia's construction is extremely optimized for a flat front ship. The thing is diagonals gives more room to play with and an unoptimized design allows for better focus in specific areas at the cost of other areas.
Also, multiple ships allow for a greater surface area for weapons and with multiple armoured compartments on each ship, it allows for a greatly enhanced survivability as overkill on each compartment is simply wasted. They are also better optimized for armour and compartments rather than shields, carrying less ions as more cannons can just break the shields down through sheer firepower (and is cheaper and longer ranged than electrobolts) after which it shreds through the rest of the ship really quickly.
Paladin's reverse delta 'wings' allow for much better concentration of firepower when rammed up against a flat side of a ship and reverse thrusters mounted there grant it a better turning rate (I think) than a delta wing. However they do have their own downsides of catching onto other ships, which can be a good or bad thing depending on whether you want firepower or more survivability.
The most basic summary is that heavy firepower combined with extreme survivability is quite a deadly combo vs glass cannons like Exodia.
