I am very interested in hearing what video cards regular players and game / MOD developers are using to play Cosmoteer and the resolutions and frame rates they are getting from their cards.

I am currently running an Intel Core I7 processor and an NVIDIA Geforce 750Ti card from when I built this machine years ago. I have a 27" 1080p monitor running at 1920 x 1080. The game runs at 60 FPS with a lite game of under 10-15 ships but I have some MUCH bigger games and have some really big ships. These games will plod along at 2-5 FPS

Sometimes I have to save and reload a game and it runs at 12 -15 FPS right after reloading. I really want to see this game running at its maximum speed! 🤓

I am looking to upgrade to an RTX 3060 which is in the range of my budget of around $500. This should greatly increase the performance of not only Cosmoteer but any other games I want to play.

My question is "What cards do you use and what is your performance stats for your rigs do you get in Cosmoteer?"

If there is a certain thread already discussing this, please let me know so I can post it there.

SIDE NOTE for Walt, Does Cosmoteer take any advantage of the CUDA cores on NVIDIA graphics cards?

Just slow the game down to like 1/4 speed dude

Cosmoteer is almost always CPU-limited, not GPU-limited. I doubt you'll see much improvement by upgrading your GPU. An easy way to tell is to pause the game while you're having bad performance: If your FPS goes up, you're CPU-limited.

No, Cosmoteer does not take advantage of CUDA cores.

FWIW I test with both a GTX 1070 and mobile GTX 1650 (which is worse than the 1070).

Cosmoteer is limited in this order CPU > RAM > GPU.

Most players here don't have the latest computer. Many are on second hands.
Mine is dual core i5 4210U 1.7GHz with 920M. It has been working fine for the past 5 going 6 years. Only recently it's been no longer adequate mostly due to RAM limitation. Needless to say I've identified my need for a Zen5/6 a few years ago since I don't expect Intel to be a better choice before Nova Lake.
Ideally, you need the best CPU available; about 24 preferable 32 GB RAM; Geforce 10 or better or mobile RDNA2 or Xe-LP class or better with 4GB VRAM. This should be enough for mods and large ships unless you build extremely large 10 km ships.

ScottyWhodat Modder here. To answer your question, I easily hit 4 digit FPS with nothing onscreen but only have slightly above average performance with a ton of stuff going on (due to having poor per-thread CPU performance)
      CPU: Ryzen 2400g (4 cores 8 threads) @ Stock (3.6Ghz)
RAM: 64GB DDR4 (temporarily underclocked to 2134Mhz to solve some previous system instability)
      GPU: RTX 2070 @ Stock
      Monitor: Generic 1080P @ 60hz

To answer what you're really looking for though, it sounds like the performance you're getting is normal. Like other people have already said, Cosmoteer is mainly CPU-limited, and does a ton of calculations for stuff like crew, meaning enough large-scale ships will very quickly cause lag no matter how good or bad your computer is.

Could CUDA cores be used to offload some of the very intensive calculations to the GPU if one has an NVIDIA card with CUDA installed?
