Minor idea I thought of, would it be possible to make larger ships be able to "tow" small ships with them during FTL jumps, so that you don't need an FTL drive on every ship in your fleet? If someone else has already suggested this, please heckle me into the void between galaxies
Warp-Towing
Jared imho this is a bit different to carriers
its more like how a tugboat drags along larger boats or how a towtruck pulls cars along than it is having planes land on a carrier or small boats dock with a larger ship
I like the idea of maybe having specialized FTL drives on larger ships that can send out a sort of leyline of FTL energy to drag along smaller ships, but ships that are too large to make a proper carrier out of
it would coincide with carriers, but it is not exactly the same and maybe dedicated, cheap tugships could become something good for future campaign usage whenever that comes out
A: there would probably be a minimum and maximum size a ship can pull along with it that prevents it bringing tiny ships or bringing massive ships, would likely be relative to how many Tow-drives you have
B: I'm thinking a ship can only carry 1-2 ships no matter how many tow drives they have, adding more only increases maximum ship size towable and efficiency
All of you are forgetting Cosmoteer lore by which the FTL generator field coverage must apply.
If you use a tractor then the ship must have a large enough FTL generator to cover the towed ship, too. Needless, to say that's a huge and costly one.
