FLEET ROLE:
Interceptors: Planetary craft built for rapid interplanetary interception of IPBM’s, landing craft, or drop pods.
Fighters: Small spacecraft built for fast movement. Able to outrun almost any capital ship missile. (Though TY-64 anti-fighter missiles can)
Gunships: Built to cover troops from the air with overwhelming firepower. Only capable of short range space flight.
Gunboats: Usually used and Planetary patrol craft, they fast moving ships with plenty of firepower to disable/destroy almost any pirate vessel. (Except cruisers and up).
Corvettes: Made for anti-fighter and anti-missile duty on fleets, they protect larger ship from attacks by smaller craft. Lightly armored but brisling with point defense and anti fighter missiles.
Destroyers: built as escort craft, they have moderate anti fighter and missile capability, 2/3 main autocannon batterys, and a few torpedo tubes.
Frigates: built for a jack of all trades type ship, it’s main purpose is for anti-capital ship duty. Ment to be relatively fast and able to deal serious damage to a cruiser or battleship.
Cruisers: Usually the main ship in a fleet, they are built for long term engagements, they carry a squadron of fighters to intercept other fighters. Their main role in the fleet is to go ahead to head with larger ships. Most are also used as command ships.
Battleships: Built to last. Tons of heavy weaponry, slow. Armored enough to take several direct hits from IE-250 torpedos. Their main role is for planetary bombardment or blockade duty.
