More Factions Mod?

So, there's something that I want to see someone do, since I don't quite know how to do it myself, but, is it possible to add an entirely new section in the ship creation in creative mode (And I don't just mean a new part tab). When you go to create a ship in creative mode, you get 2 options, you can either create a Terran ship, or an asteroid. I want to know if it is possible to add another section because I haven't seen any mods that do that (if you have, let me know). So if there are any modders out there reading this, please see if you can do that and send the link to the mod to me, and thank you if you do!

Centarian Yes, Abh used to have 7 in total but the feature was removed (3) years ago as the older gamer version became too laggy and resource intensive. You can re-enable it if you want in mod.txt. No waranties
Also having different ship classes currently makes mixing not possible without extra setting them up and yet they remain "incompatible" to each other. So there's little reason unless they are meant to completely independent.

pointless if you ask me, you’ll have to add all the parts into that new section and there’s no benefit to it if you ask me, why wouldn’t you just use the normal one?

The thought is that different races have different technology, so making an an entirety new set of parts for a race doesn't seem that far from reality to me.

i mean sure but then your restricted to those specific parts, so sure it has a purpose in that case but why not just have it in the normal Terran section and just have it in its own build menu that way if you want to add parts from vanilla parts/other mods you can

I was thinking that in creative mode there could be a separate section where all parts are available. That way you could still build ships using both factions parts, while still being able to recognize which factions parts are which. Another thought is that in bounty hunter (or campaign for future versions) you choose a faction and only have access to that factions parts or the part's used by whoever you kill. Kinda like an extra challenge.

That's not how it works. Walt has refused time again and again to implement such an UI feature.
So either you cram all in one tab or x-time "same" tabs or completely separate ship classes. They also used to not work with BH. It should work today including MP but incompatibility still exists.

Centarian and you cant do that in the normal "terran" build list? lots of people make multiple factions and having everything in the normal terran list has never been an issue. again theres no reason to do this so no modders would realistically do this, there is no reason to do this and no benifit to doing this, if you wanna make diffrent factions then just make diffrent factions....

I just want someone to make mod add-ons that separate the parts of different mod factions for a challenge or something. That way you can tell what parts belong to which faction easier when doing challenges like that.

again only way you’d be able to easily do this is make your own mod then make 2-3 part sets that just look different then have them in their own build group. And again issue with that is it’s a lot of work with no benefit. You’d be better of just making factions the same way everyone else does. But again, nothing is stopping you from doing so and you can get help from people here and more easily on the discord

I don't get why lafiel and jared are so opposed to this (and don't want to help). You can't get a perfectly clean implementation, but what you're asking for is certainly possiblish. Here's how it'd work:
The first thing you'd need to do is to add an entirely new ship classification (I don't think there's an actual term for this) next to Terran and Asteroids. Ship classes are created under Ships[] in rules.txt. You'll need to create a classification.txt that holds all of that ship type's information. I'd recommend starting with a copy of terran.txt and editing it from there. Note that in doing so you'll need to inherit sections from terran.txt or rewrite a lot of paths.
Once you have your classification.txt working, all you need to do is start adding your own custom parts to it. You can also mix in vanilla parts if you want. The only limitation is that you can only ever use one ship class at a time; if you wanted to mix asteroid and terran you'd have to create an entirely new ship class just for the one combination. I wouldn't recommend much past a single new ship type and maybe a new class that merges it and terran.
As far as actually getting it to work in singleplayer, you have a few options, all revolving around AllowsBuyShipRulesIDs in bounty.txt. You can either add your new ship class directly and be done with it, or if you're feeling adventurous you could create an entirely new clone of bounty mode that only allows you to use the new ship type. Note that if you want enemy ships with this new classification to spawn, you'll either have to make them spawn in every gamemode, or do some shenanigans to make them only spawn in a new gamemode, which is why cloning bounty hunter might be good depending on your plans.
