A big problem I have with designing my ships isn’t getting all the resources, it’s designing a way to make sure the crew can deliver them in a timely and efficient manner.
so, I thought of some ideas for how to make your crewoptimize their workflow and not power the small engines with x3 batteries when there is a power storage RIGHT THERE

Idea one: supply chain orders
Have you ever had a problem where your crew would take batteries from the wrong sources to power systems? Wasting larger batteries on small systems that don’t need them, or drawing from your reserves when the reactor is full? I propose that we can tell the crew what sources should supply what systems. For example, you could say the large reactor powers the storage cells, engine rooms, and sensors, since those all work well on large supplies given intermediately, but have them take from the storages to power point defense systems, ammo factories, and small systems like that, where larger batteries would be wasted. this could also work for ammo and missiles, if needed.

Idea 2: probably the dumber idea. When boarding is added, it seems likely that there will be some sort of armory added to equip crew with weapons for boarding actions. Using this concept, you could equip your crew with other things that don’t rely on fighting. For example, an exoskeleton that lets your worker carry more things, but disallows then from meaning systems due to the lack of fine manipulators.

Just two ideas I had.

that's already possible

Yeah, as kwhwwymwn says, this is already a feature, though I admit the UI for it isn't very intuitive. You have to have the Behavior tab selected and then you can click on the various reactors/factories and then right-click on the things they should supply. You can also assign specific crew quarters to only operate/supply specific parts. (The UI for doing this has been completely overhauled for the Steam release and will be much more intuitive and clear.)

Ohhhh, thanks for telling me. I wasn’t aware of that.
