A part of the main HDC fleet arrives at the core factory field of the HDC. A variant of different tests in the science center has come to results and now are producing weapons in masses. All new ships are already equipped with new ones, but the new material and new production lines needed slowed down ship production by a lot. To put the new technology to a good use, the HDC command decided to reequip most of the existing fleet.
Many ships now need reequipment. To fit long range combat just as short range one, a few weapons are replaced.
The Spear class dreadnoughts for example. Its reactor is replaced with a much more efficient and way more powerful one, but it tends to blackout for minutes when its full workload is reached.
The hangar bays are set to the back, so a wall of 150mm very high velocity guns could be build up.
The rocket bays are kept, but now load either HEAT rockets, or high velocity rockets that accelerate a few meters before impact to make sure they hit hard, without sacrificing maneuverability. The rockets are kept in single parts and can will be build together in battle to use various sizes and thrusters in order to count enemy PD
The main weapon, the railgun, is kept, but with added plasma infusion into the trail of the projectile for extra damage once the armor is pierced.
The guns on the side proved to be inefficient against anything but fortresses and large groups of smaller targets. Therefor they have been replaced with 2 high power laser beams. The size it adaptive, to perform at peak performance in many situations.
The point defense system got an AI upgrade and optimized performance. There are many fast firing guns or various caliber (from 7,62mm to 50mm with a wide variety of ammunition types). The AI system automatically uses higher caliber guns on targets with a higher priority
In addition to the normal gun PD a new laser PD system was added. even if the laser system drains so much energy that it is basically impossible to use shields, offensive lasers and laser PD at the same time. The laser PD works excellent at longer ranges, and use a slammer laser pointer to make sure its on its target before firing with the more powerful laser. In best conditions, a single laser can destroy dozens of rockets in a single minute.
The only thing missing for a nearly perfect PD grit is good sensor tech. For now, the many rada systems arent precise enough to find every rocket and shoot them down.
The armor was reduced by a lot on strong spots to make the Spear class lighter. A new cooling system makes the armor that remains more heat resistant while also fueling the plasma railgun
Besides some weak normal shields, the Spear class has a newly developed tech called "reactive shields". They work by melting the outer few centimeters of the hull and letting them be hold a few meters out side of the hull with the use of a special magnetic fields. With this technic, a few meters of hull can be sacrificed to effectively move armor to other spots where they are needed or to counter damage peaks. This kind of shielding can not only block some of your own weapons in the area you want to shield, but also costs a considerable amount of energy to sustain. Once ther is no further use, it will either be brought back to the hull, but in most cases it will be fired into the enemy direction to intercept some attacks.
