One of the lifeboats picked up in the aftermath sat in the main hangar bay of the frigate. A couple of the ships marines worked on prying the entry hatch open. A corpsman waits nearby with medical supplies to treat whoever was inside the pod. The rear entry hatch flies open as the marines stop their groaning and prying. They peek inside the pod and see the bodies on the floor. They yell for the corpsman to come over who runs into the pod to check on the injured personnel.
The smell of blood hits the corpsman as the floor of the pod is soaked with a red stickiness. Bringing up her datapad the corpsman connects to the IFF tags of the bodies on the floor which are still transmitting. The datapad shows that there is head trauma on both as well as lacerations on their backs. The back lacerations are odd enough. Looking at the bodies she takes out a pair of medical scissors and cuts away at the uniforms of the bodies revealing large and deep carvings into their backs.
What the fuck is this...
Days later after the life pods are collected, it is reported that all those inside them have the odd runes carved into their backs and the brains completely fried. The runes were run through databanks and brought up no results. It remained a mystery.
