The following days consisted mainly of planning. Tracking down the source of the anomaly proved far more difficult than anticipated, as it soon became apparent that it was nowhere on the surface, or even close for that matter. After consulting decades old planetary models and cross checking with what was known, the rough location was narrowed down to a series of caves and massive caverns buried in the planet's lower mantle.
The obvious next step was to actually get there, which was of course easier said than done, and comically large drills were very quickly disregarded as impractical. In the end the plans were laid out to use a Qswitch insertion pod riding off a co-ordinated scan from every Darkfleet ship in the system. The cover up was a masterpiece of denial and deception, though the composer employed similar methods regarding their identity.
As they arrived at the northern tundra where the journey was to begin, The Ambassador felt another strong psychic presence. A different entity to the one buried thousands of kilometers beneath his paws, he got the feeling he was much much closer to this unknown. Raasha sensed it as well, though begrudgingly told him to ignore it. Perhaps there are some secrets that would remain clandestine today.
The pod itself was a re-engineered drop pod used by the VSA. All the heat shielding and other orbital drop components had been stripped away, leaving a roughly octagonal-prism-like metal box. The compartment was of course designed for quadrupedal creatures, thus the Ambassador had to lie down in his gel-cushioned "seat".
Light bent and distorted, then snapped back to normality. The pod shuddered slightly, then one of the operatives reported their arrival over the intercom. The expedition exited the pod, pointing guns everywhere in classic stealth op fashion, shortly followed by Raasha shaking his head in disappointment, then The Ambassador.
