This is related to the later fighter expansion of the game.
A little talk on problems about fighter craft inside a mothership / carrier.
The number one problem is frame of reference. I'm referring to a fighter craft being inside the carrier hangar.
Ordinarily both carrier and fighters are acting independently on the global frame. This posses a problem when both are coming together. As the carrier moves with fighter craft inside the fighters would remain locally on the global grid. As a result they "slide" until being pushed along by the hangar wall or fall out of the ship.
For playing this posses a problem of moving fighters inside the carriers into various position or orientation while the carrier is on the move. This forces the carriers to become stationary in order to use fighter crafts.
It would be nice if fighter crafts automatically switch to the carrier's grid when inside.
This can cause another problem when fighter craft cross the carrier's path and not intending to be inside.
So this might require some sort of manual switch.
The second problem is selecting fighters inside a carrier. For example the Abh mod has hangar parts with their own function like catapult or mooring. When a fighter and those parts overlap it becomes a problem of selecting the part of ship you want.
I don't have a good solution other than either
- having the game recognize overlap and offering a menu to select the fighter or the part beneath. this might cause a lot of lag
- using a button to activate the menu. this would avoid lags
