The Cyraith Republic was a System-Spanning culture based on the idea of Meritocracy, the Idea that a person's importance in government is determined by merit, or their achievements in society. Their society was highly successful and prosperous, most of recorded history showing a landslide of success after success. Their technological discoveries grew deeper and deeper into mechanical innovation, leading to many innovations now lost to time. Due to their deeply pacifistic nature, the Cyreen remained woefully ignorant in the ways of waging war. After A long chain of breakthroughs in temporal warps and mechanics, a truly startling invention was born. Formed by a quark in time, they discovered how to move a starship massive distance instantaneously through a quark in temporal mechanics. As the ship engages, it travels to a future point in time in which it is already in the desired location, which is exactly the time it "left" its previous location, due to it already being there. After the invention of this technology, the Cyraith Republic's first true civil war broke out. After a widespread difference of opinion over the marketing of this means of travel, a bomb was set off which brought a future version of their planet to inhabit the same space as the original, causing a massive warp in space, literally ripping their planet in half in multiple dimensions. After this catastrophe, the entire remaining race laid down arms, and agreed that tech that could cause that level of destruction was not for sale. The race became nomads, each ship remaining in contact by sending physical "Pods" through a miniature, automated, and one way version of the same tech that allows their instant travel. Due to the disbanding of the Republic due to it simply being impractical to keep in contact at that range, their laws and culture can vary from ship to ship, but mainly have some core principals in common, such as keeping a mainly Meritocracy style government, and, above all, the Time warp engine cannot be shared, even if it means self destructing their vessels.
Biology: The Cyreen appear human from a distance, however, several key differences are present. As a result of near parallel evolution, they are humanoid, with an average height of 7 to 8 feet, due to hundreds of years in space, having very narrow builds. Their lifespan in nearly an average 200 years, due to advanced medical practices. Due to a herbivore biology, they lack canine teeth, having instead blunter teeth. Many have been described to have silver eyes, however, many are flecked with other colors, as well as having terrible night vision, and prefer brightly lit area, leading to many areas of their ships being uncomfortably bright. Many are seemingly naïve, mainly because they consider "Backstabbing" or other forms of betrayal unthinkable.
Tech: The Cyreen tech is mainly mechanical based, using light as the primary energy transfer medium. Due to their peaceful nature, they are woefully lacking in weapons and defenses, preferring to run rather than engage in battle, and, in extreme cases, they will self destruct rather than having their ships taken over, often commenting: Without our ships, where are we to go? Due to the Time warp engine, many of their sunlight engines are incredibly slow, resulting in slow, lumbering ships with horrible steering. Most communication is through "Standard" channels, which are designed to be as universal as possible. Most of their tech is traded for, but has been heavily modified. It is not uncommon to see a Cyraith ship outfitted with strange and uncharacteristic machinery, most of it unidentifiable from modification. Most of this modified tech is openly tradable, except for "Homebrew" inventions, which can only be purchased at a Cy-ghah.
Navigation: The Cyraith home world is an unkept secret, any Cyreen will willingly tell you its location, maintaining absolute confidence there is nothing there worth risking your life for. Many Cyreen maps are incomprehensible to read, as many aspects are based on data other race's simply not having the capacity to use. Many will simply resort to going to a viewport, and pointing in the general direction.
Ships: To be added; after redesign.
Government: Little remains of the original republic, but much of the Cyraith culture has adapted. One of the most hallowed traditions is when more than 2 ships meet up, in a sharing of tech and innovations know only as an exchange. Breaking up such a ceremony usually promotes an uncharacteristic response, usually resulting in the interrupter to told to "Leave this space, or have your ship warped out of all space and time". Shipboard operations mainly revolve around a unspoken and unenforced "Do what your best at", however, the captain and advisor are elected by the 15 most merited members of the crew. The captain makes most decisions, and the advisor's job is to represent the people who have different views on matters than the captain, and can override a captain's decision if the majority of the ship is supporting the advisor, and either can resign, causing both to be re-elected by the elite.
Relations: Most Cyreen are opposed to the idea of long-term alliances, and many last only as long as they are in system. However, they will absolutely oppose any group using Organic based ships, Slaves, or Religion based groups. Due to their extreme nomad culture, they will not honor contracts, or treaties signed by other ships of the Cyraith Republic.
Trade: Most Cyraith ships are used to trade, as it is the best way to obtain fuel without becoming stationary. They will trade most of their hardware and surplus, as most of it is traded for or has been salvaged from derelict ships. However, most "Homebrew" tech is not for sale. If a Cyraith ship sees another ship using Cyraith tech, they will openly approach them and ask. If they go without a response, they will attempt to apologetically destroy or remove that piece from the ship, in the manner the Captain sees fit.
