Somewhere near the galactic core,a bright collumn of light appears seemingly out of nowhere, shining the darkness of interstellar space with blinding intensity before stopping abruptly. From the base of the beam left a hole,a tear in space time itself. A massive form emerged from within,a cluster of crystals shimmering with energy. Before long, more beams of light appeared, bringing more and more of similar clusters of crystals, big and small, all shining with blue light. They have gathered for one purpose,to feed on the energy of one of the most violent stars in the area.
The glass-like creatures are hungry, and they long for their missing family
Faction name: Crymnant Genesis
The Crymnant Genesis(alternatively known as the Shards of Magnata) is a nomadic group of Magnaspawns , creatures made of crystals capable of absorbing energy from stars and other sources.
origin
These crystals originated from a shard of crystal dropped by an extragalactic force that landed on an irradiated exo-planet Magnata orbiting an unstable giant star. The star, named Lux Iustorum is located somewhere in the anomalous Sephaelus sector, and only the Genesis knows of the star's exact location.
Due to a battle with that same force that dropped the Shard several hundred thousand years ago,the entire sector was overrun with dimensional rifts and tears in reality created by the Starlit Javelin's weapon. Magnata along with the celestial bodies, Aureus, Caelus, Lumina, and Pelagis orbiting Lux Iustorum has been lost inside the many dimensional rifts in the area. None of the planets have been found yet, though fragments of the civilisations that lived on them have been found scattered across G-S16.
Goals
The Crymnant Genesis as a whole has only two goals, finding the remaining Crymnant crystals and finding their lost Mother Magnata to reunite with their kin who were lost along with their homeworld.
Numbers
The exact numbers of Magnaspawns roaming G-S16 is unknown, though hypothetically if the Shards of Magnata were to combine it would become slightly larger than the planet Earth of the UEG.
Crymnant:properties and variants
Crymnant is a special crystal capable of absorbing, storing and releasing energy that can grow in size and break off. Different types of Crymnant has different uses for the absorbed energy. There are three main types: Exothermic,Endothermic and Nullified Crymnants and a sub type for the Exothermic called "White Sun Glass"
The first two types are "living" crystals, meaning they actively gain and lose energy ,with different rates depending on the type.
The third type is sometimes called "Dead Crymnant" or "Nullfite",and is essentially the two crystals' deprived state.
Exothermic Crymnants are crystals that take in a lot of energy but could not store them all, sometimes releasing them as bright light or flames(I drew one Exothermic Crymspawn some time ago),and usually highly volatile. These are the most energetic of the three, with it's final form being the White Sun Glass,a crymnant with absurd amounts of energy stored and released from it,and also extremely volatile and fragile. These Exo-Crymnants usually have warm colors (red, orange, yellow etc) and warm to the touch
Endothermic Crymnants are less energetic crystals and are the counterpart to the Exo-Crymnant. These types of crystals are better at absorbing and storing energy, acting as hyper-efficient batteries. They are less volatile but easier to shatter, and usually colored blue or any of it's variants, sometimes becoming green or purple on certain occasions, and ice cold to touch
The last type, the Nullified Crymnant, are the final "dead" , inactive state of a Crymnant crystal. These are unable to absorb or release energy efficiently. The lack of energy makes them tough and hard, though susceptible to intense heat. Nullfite is used as armor or melee weapons due to it's durability. Nullfites are not irreversibly dead, they can still be revitalized if there is still a small part of it that is not completely nullified. Nullfites are completely black
Volatility and fragility scales with energy absorbed, released or stored.
Exo-Crymnant(most energy released and absorbed=most volatile) ----> Endo-Crymnant(more energy stored but less energy taken in and out=slightly less volatile) ----> Nullfite(stable, hard and tough)
Magnaspawns
Magnaspawns are clusters of Exo-Crymnant or Endo-Crymnant(ExC and EnC for short. They are semi-sentient, capable of speech and thought, but unable to understand emotions. This makes them less likely to make mistakes and also have no mercy, especially while searching for lost Crymnants. If any one Magnaspawn has more Exo-Crymnant than Endo-Crymnant,it will be considered an Exothermic Magnaspawn and vice versa. Magnaspawns come in many sizes, ranging from humanoid sized to battleship sized and sometimes the size of stations
Abilites and weaknesses
Magnaspawns can take on any form as their crystals can meld and combine. This allows for humanoid or beast-like Magnaspawns while also providing flexibility to move easier. They can also break off small portions of themselves to act as fighters or gunships. They utilize energy based weapons such as beams and energy blasts. Some have also used Nullfite as armor piercing rounds.
Most Magnaspawns are made purely of either ExC or EnC. Some have equal amounts of both, some have more of the other. Pure Exo-Magnaspawns and Endo-Magnaspawns are more adept at using ExC or EnC than mixed Magnaspawns, while the latter is more versatile in combat. This creates specialized roles that allow different tactics to be used on the battlefield
Magnaspawns are entirely made of Crymnant, leaving them with no blindspots. Their biggest weakness are projectile weapons, especially artillery shells and cannon rounds,as they can shatter their crystals easily. Their solution? Suck the energy out of EnCs until they turn into Nullfite and use it as armor.
Magnaspawns can meld with other magnaspawns, but depending on their size it could take a long time or consume tremendous amounts of energy. The smaller the shard, the faster it can meld with other shards and uses less energy. The opposite is true when largers shards try to meld.
Magnaspawns can also intentionally split apart for more flexibility in the battlefield. Larger battleship sized magnaspawns can split into corvette sized ones to flank their enemy. Larger ones are easier to split while smaller ones are a little more difficult to split. Pieces smaller than one milimeter can meld together in less than a second while pieces larger than a meter can take about a minute.

Behavior
Magnaspawns are (not entirely) emotionless machines dedicated to fulfilling their goal. This includes killing and torturing for information, and sometimes outright assaults toward a nation's property. Survivors of these assaults who have encountered the Genesis' soldiers observed signs of hesitation when ordered to kill or torture civilians, possibly pointing towards a slight amount of sympathy. Despite this, magnaspawn soldiers will do what they must to best serve the Genesis and their Mother Magnata.
They typically search for high energy signatures in systems to look for Shards and will attack anything preventing them from acquiring the shard,be it ships or stations. This has led many to resent the Crymnant Genesis for their assaults. Because of the valuable energetic properties of Crymnant crystals, pirates and even some governments have sought to acquire some for their own wants.
Some nations have banned the carrying and selling of these, though some have been sold at black markets with a very high price. Owners of Shards of Magnata were usually terminated and the shard retrieved within a month of buying. Despite this, some crafty owners persisted and have used their owned Shard to study the Purgatory
Large magnaspawns are more intelligent than smaller ones, this is because every single piece of crymnant has a slight amount of intelligence. Combined together, they can form complex minds, perhaps even sentience and on rare cases, reaching a point called "singularity" , where creatures gain the ability to feel emotions.
This also means that small magnaspawns, often less than 1kg are unable to make their own decisions and rely on other, larger magnaspawns to decide for them. As such, they can be incredibly coordinated with a sufficient Crymnant mind controlling them. As such,Crymnant owners always made sure that less than 5 kilograms of Crymnant are kept in one place at a time to avoid them from escaping.
Magnaspawns have also been observed to learn about their targets and formulating a plan before launching an operation or assault, showing their mental capacity.
Allegiance
The Crymnant Genesis can be considered neutral unless inconvenienced(which includes stealing and possession of a Crymnant crystal or preventing them from retrieving one).
They may visit planets or stations and outposts to monitor any suspicious activity involving high energy. This often leads to a skirmish and could end badly if they are not prepared. However, they are open to offering some of their Crymnant for assistance in locating and retrieving other Shards
Leader
The Crymnant Genesis has only one non-crymnant being, and that being is their leader. It is unknown which species this being is from, but seeing as they are able to breathe in space and survive without nourishment it is assumed that he is a robot of some kind. The magnaspawns refer to him as "the Fallen" . (Insert drawing of him here)
FTL and navigation
Magnaspawns travel faster than light by entering Purgatory and displacing themselves with matter near the exit point.
Purgatory is the realm beyond the edge of the universe and can only be entered by dying or by tearing a hole in space using a high-energy beam emitted from Crymnant crystals. The reason behind this is unknown. Inside, matter leaks it's information and takes in information from other matter. This means the matter inside Purgatory constantly shifts from one form to another, from metal to liquids to half-living beings, anything can be created from a clump of matter inside Purgatory. The effects of staring into Purgatory has on a human or any xenoform with sentience and souls is similar to staring to a dark god, where their mind is broken and their soul sucked into the cold darkness. Inside, the fragmented souls are imbued into the tiny particles while the matter shifts. If a clump forms large enough, the mind and soul becomes larger and is able to feel the pain of slowly disintegrating and reintegrating.
Magnaspawns cannot seal the hole into Purgatory after exiting and must leave it open until the universe mends it. Magnaspawns smaller than a cruiser usually cannot travel faster than light due to their insufficient energy capacity, though more energetic magnaspawns such as White Sun Glass magnaspawns are able to FTL travel. Because of this, smaller magnaspawns will meld with a larger magnaspawn to travel far distances
Magnaspawns can vibrate parts of their body to create sounds. While talking to a new species, they can be heard tuning their frequency to be heard by others. Long distance communication is usually achieved by utilizing smaller White Sun Glass messengers to send the information.
They navigate by monitoring heat and energy emitted by objects
communications
The Crymnant Genesis has set up a complex communications network across the galaxy utilizing small "monitor nodes" acting as eyes that report any strange activity to larger information hubs which transmit them to any magnaspawns nearby
Birth,death and lifetimes
magnaspawns are constantly generating their Crymnant. At a certain point a large enough cluster will break off from the mother(?) to become a new magnaspawn, hence their name. As stated earlier magnaspawns can die if they are deprived of energy. A fully dead magnaspawn will be dropped into Lux Iustorum. On the unlikely chance that they were able to survive and gain the star's energy, the previously dead magnaspawn will be revived. On an even rarer occasion, the revived magnaspawn will immediately turn into a White Sun Glass magnaspawn, the ultimate form of magnaspawn.
Crymnant can lose their quality with age,but can still retain information and experience. Some magnaspawns willingly give a part of themselves to others to help them. This can be considered the Crymnant Genesis' way of passing down knowledge.
