Hia im bbp and i realy like painting ships. so mush so that sometimes more than half the time i spent on building a ship is spent on painting. in this guide i aim to show you the ways of ship painting. its however important to note that everyone paints differently and there is no set right way to paint correctly (most if not all advise in this guide is based on how i paint). anyway lets get to the guide.
episode 1 : the shape of thy ship
painting your ship can already start in the building fhase . making the ships shape intresting and nice to look at . this is bestly done by playing with armor and structure but can be done threw the intire ship .i mostly do this by useing armor and structure tho. note that example 2 looks way more intresting than example 1
to explan how i did this roufhly : first i drew 3 lines of armor , then i made one shorter . then i made one thicker ,then i plased diagonal lines betwen two . then i broke some lines and so on. i build one small bit , check if i like it and build another small bit (you can practis making some armor look intresting this way if you want). thiner armor around the ship can also look more intresting if its just split into smaller bits conected by structure. now that your armor looks nice lets talk about paint.
episode 2 : what type of paint does thy want?
there almost infinit ways to paint a ship . your task is to pick one of those infinit paints and make it hapen. how do you do this ? well let me explane a few methods you can go about it:
method 1 : a theme
you can pick what i like to call "a paint theme" this can be anything from 'picking a few selected decals' to 'based on a fictinal character', let show some examples
in this example i only used plane01, plane02, plane03 and plane04
in this one i used round shapes for the decals high and a variaty of shapes on low decals
and this example is megumins hat (i build a ship based on megumin who is a character from the anime konosuba)
a theme can be as simple or complex as you want, as long as you stay consistant threw the intire ship (you can try to paint something with a persenal paint theme to practis if you want )
method 2 : painting without a theme
kind of explanes it self does it not? painting without a theme is basicly painting freestyle. i find it quite fun but it will look a bit chaotic if not done right . heres a example:
method 3 : folowing the shape of your ship
you can also paint by folowing the shape of your ship . like if your ship has pointy bits. paint pointy bits on the pointy bits . example:
method 4 : filling in
to explane this one lets take a ship and draw some bits on it
now lets fill in as mush as posible (wile still showing the background):
great now we got a paint that looks a lot more intresting.
method 5 : bbps way
i personaly combine all 4 earlier methods and do a little of all . this may be more diffucult if your not femiliar with all 4 earlier methods however, so i recommend you try those a bit before doing method 5 .
now you know some methods of painting . (you can practis 1 or 2 methods if you want to). now that you know these methods lets talk about colours
episode 3 : how does thy pick thy colours?
colours are a very subjective thing and there is no "best colour" or "worst colour" so i will not say something like "use blue only". what i will say is this : pick colours that compliment one another, like colours that are opposites on the colour wheel or those that are close togeter in the colour wheel . it would help to know colour theory and i would explane that, but youtube does a way beter job at explaning colour theory that i could ever do in text. so i would recomment looking it up there.
episode 4 : stuff thy sould know that i could not fit anywere else.
1 painting takes some time to get good at so its ok if you can not get it perfectly on your first try , i mean i have been painting for roufely 3 years and im still improveing.
2 if there is anything unclear in this guide or if you got any questions please let me know here , i be happy to answer and edit the guide as soon as i can ( may not be on the same day as you ask).
3 i know that there may be typos in this guide , im bad at words , im sry for this.
4 i kind of got a unfair advanage in painting as im also a artist (not the best one by far i may add) and it helped me a good bit wile learning to paint ships (this does not mean you need to be an artist to paint ships)
6 painting can take time , take all the time you need and dont rush it.
episode 5 : outro
i think that was all .
i realy hope this guide will be helpfull as i almost spent an intire day on it and again if anything is unclear let me know here. anyway goodluck painting and have fun doing it .
